NNAS experience?

Published

Does anybody have any experience with NNAS? So far, I've read the site but it would be great to hear from people who have gone through the process :)

I haven't taken the NCLEX yet.

I applied to CNO yesterday so have to wait for them to tell me when I can sit the exam.

Congratulations Jordan, if your NNAS reports reads "comparable" then you will be allowed to write your NCLEX in few months...

@tamiko17 I have emailed you.. check your hotmail account...

Just to ensure everyone is aware of this important information:

CNO made changes in September 2016 regarding how IEN's can prove their education requirement has been met. Although these changes were not published on the CNO website until two weeks ago, they are effective as of Sept 2016.

Prior, IENs who did not have nursing work experience generally were not invited to complete the IENCAP. They were asked to complete more education to fulfil unmet competencies. IENCAP was used to test whether those with nursing work experience had the skills and knowledge which suggests they have an education which is equivalent to a new Canadian grad. Now, IENs can be asked to complete the IENCAP regardless of whether they have nursing work experience or not.

Further, CNO will now look at your nursing work experience to see whether any of your experience can account for any of the unmet competencies. I'm assuming they will do this by looking at what is contained in job descriptions, maybe letters from employers, etc (this isn't quite clear). So it is possible now for someone to get an unfavourable result on NNAS and to have their experience evaluated by CNO to determine that they do actually have what would be expected of a new Canadian nursing grad, and technically, they could meet the education requirement without completing the IENCAP afterall. Of course everything is on a case-by-case basis but these changes highlight the fact that NNAS misses crucial aspects and they make it so that experience can be taken into consideration to make up for it. The changes also allow someone who is a new grad from the UK or Philippines (or anywhere really) who has not been employed in nursing yet to demonstrate their equivalent skills at the IENCAP. Previously, they would have had to get nursing work experience in the jurisdiction where they received their education or they would have been asked to go back to school for some courses.

So, for all the posts where I stated that those without nursing work experience would have to go back to school and would not be allowed to take the IENCAP exam, this is no longer the case.

I hope this is good news for some!

I got my Comparable report 2 weeks ago and applied to CNO the same day. 4 days ago I got an email saying I'm eligible to sit the NCLEX-RN and I can do it whenever I'm ready.

I cant believe how easy it's been for me to be able to sit the NCLEX-RN.

Now for the really hard part!!!

Good luck everyone!

@Tabs, RN_Pro, tamiko and anyone else who is preparing to do the IENCAP in Feb, March or April, have any of you attended the IENCAP preparation session at Touchstone Institute or Healthforce Ontario? If so, what did they recommend you use as reference material?

I have taken the IENCAP today ! It's my worst day I have ever had.

It's really a torture day! I don't think those with entry level can have no mistakes when they need to go through about 6 hours exams.

The food they provided were cold.. no hot drink.. only cool water.. no tissue paper allowed to bring into the venue.. only one box of tissues for 50 candidates.. not enough washrooms and not enough washroom break ! are they not considering humanity ? they only concern communication skills ......

Any university students need to take 6 hours exam in one day and not allow to leave the venue by the time, can't talk, forced to eat the disgusting lunch, cold drink in Canada winter time, the room temperature is cool.. can't fix the heat over 4 hours and made lots of candidates got cold.. and needed to ask for several times then allow few of us to get back the coat.. everyone of us were wearing nurse attire.. short sleeves and thin cloth..

How can we get a good results..

after 95 MCQ questions.. i have already exhausted due to the chills, then feeling nausea after having the disgusting sandwiches. Afterthat, the 12 stations OSCE has already made me pass out..

If anyone can pass the exam, I can only say the questions stem has already been spread out...

If they really want to earn money, they'd better allow all the applicants to take a 1 - 1.5 years courses to make a win-win situation. They can open up more lecturer/ professor position in all universities, can train all the IEN to become their model like Canadian Nurse, ... >.

Hi all,

I have received the results from CNO last week and I'm eligible to write the NCLEX-RN!! Thanks GOD !!!

Although I'm still have one more step to complete all the CNO requirement for registration, I found the "Internet Power" is so strong.. I have also send negative comment to CNO, but all it's true haha.. really need to revise.. coz i can't bear the cold food :)

But one thing I'm sure is .. IENCAP isn't that difficult as mentioned in many forum. Just be confident and perform as a nurse what you used to be. If your nursing practice is in standard, you MUST pass !!! no worries !!

@ lkm812, thanks for the update, it's great to hear from applicants who were successful with the IENCAP (even though the environment and food were too cold). How many weeks did it take from the time you completed the IENCAP until CNO notified you that you are eligible to do the the next step in the licensing process?

Good luck with the NCLEX, if you are looking for study tips, you can find thousands of threads in the NCLEX forum, to find it, look at the yellow banner at the top of AN and click on Students.

Congratulations! That's great news. Phew! Where did you originally get your nursing education? I will do IENCAP soon and I'm feeling prepared. Hoping for the same outcome.

I commenced my application 19 months ago and have recently received my report. I must say it's been a very frustrating and insulting process. I am Irish so interested in other Irish nurses experience with th NNAS process. Little did I know that the external envelope is considered a document and should be sealed and stamped by the institution whose signed documents are within.Feeling frustrated at the lack of information detail with regard to my nursing education available from Ireland also.Moving on from the NNAS I am also interested in hearing about experiences with the CNO jurisprudence exam.
