I have got a job in one LTC now . and the salary is decent (at least they recognised my experience , thank God!) and can work 8 hours day shift , full time and full benefits :) Oh that means LHSC will block me for future... I have extensive experience in my home country.. I was an educator and as a clinical instructor in a hospital based nursing school. Specialised in Ortho and have represented my home country to attend Canadian Ortho Nurses Asso. in 2010 & 2016... but anyway, i have given up to apply to LHSC ..... i have worked as volunteer as global educator in one US charitable educational institutes and which can maintain my research work and educational role :)

Thank you for your encouraging words, I didn't take any refresher course and I 'd just taken IENCAP, CELBAN , Jurisprudence exam and NCLEX-RN right away. I even can't find any job shadowing, or refresher course ..or join ONA,.. coz I don't have any job and can't join the union... ....

hi, I'm trying to find a hospital job in London ON, but seems very difficult without any connection. How was your experience and did you pick the job finally ?

First of all, congratulations !!! I have worked in trauma centre for 10 years then being deployed to work in ED for half year for special training. In this half year of time, I have some feelings on ED 1. fast thinking and rely on your critical thinking in Triage stage, is a challenging position 2. lots of traps, due to all the clients came into ED has no name tag difficult to identify the client and easy to miss the treatment if the client has sent home "accidentally " hahahhaa 3. difficult to follow up the client 's condition after client has admited to ward, somehow, job satisfaction is coming from those client's recovery process :) 4. in observation room, the job is quite boring... haha 5. When you have adapted the environment, you will find another boring thing,... repeated ECG, Blood work, wait for dr assessment, treatment / send to ward... a kind of repetitive work all day 6. As someone stated above, a limited time to treat the client, so follow the protocol strictly seems the only way you can survive in ED :) ... or after awhile, you can make a difference and make another protocol for your fellows to follow >.

Hi there, I am an IEN and thank God that to get the RN license within two years after moving into Canada. However, I found to find a job in Hospital or Government funded senior home is uneasy. I have been invited to attend interview in St. Jos, and VH, but failed.... I have worked for visiting nurse and agency nurse, seems no other options for those IEN can work in facility .... Anyone can give me advice on job interview ? and lots of people would say if failed in hospital job interview, you have no more chance to attend any other job interview in the future, is that true ?

Hi, as long as I know, only some nursing program from UK has succeed to grant a comparable nursing degree with Canada. It depends on case by case. If you decided to move to Canada, you'd better ask for application package and start the NNAS credential assessment.

Hi glor333, Long time not seeing you posting! I have passed NCLEX-RN and waiting for Canadian nursing license now. How was your nursing license in Hong Kong, My friend from Western U, just took a written exam but she said she has no idea on the questions.. and she is waiting for the result in Toronto.

Ha Ha, I have went through the IENCAP, and NCLEX-RN now. I have no chance to speak my first language during the lunch hour, coz I was the only candidate speak Cantonese (I came from Hong Kong). May or may not be assessed the language skills during that day, I did speak to everyone in English for sure! and finally, I really passed it !

I need to take care my 2 year old daughter after resignation and resided to Canada. Therefore, I really didn't have much time to study even though Ive bought all the text books. The reason I can pass the exam, i think Ive spent alot of time to understand Canadian culture. That is really true. Their speaking style, politeness, etc. Apart from this, spent time to read the CNO page and know the recent medical issue, policy changes, etc. For the knowledge, just the same as i've learnt in Hong Kong. So don' t need to worry. Try to revise some knowledge and skills on Physical examination is enough. Prepare how to communicate with patient and colleagues is far more important than nursing knowledge haha If you don't have any language barrier, than the IENCAP should not be a problem :)

Hi RN_Pro, My initial nursing education from Hong Kong. and work in Hong Kong for 15 years specialized in Ortho, last 4 years as a clinical instructor in nursing school. Working in nursing school gave me lots of chance to revise my knowledge and practice the OSCE

I ve waited exactly what they said 8 weeks ! I received an email from CNO and said I'm eligible to take the NCLEX-RN ! Thanks Dishes, and thanks for your encouraging words to me and all other IENs ! :)

I have taken the IENCAP today ! It's my worst day I have ever had. It's really a torture day! I don't think those with entry level can have no mistakes when they need to go through about 6 hours exams. The food they provided were cold.. no hot drink.. only cool water.. no tissue paper allowed to bring into the venue.. only one box of tissues for 50 candidates.. not enough washrooms and not enough washroom break ! are they not considering humanity ? they only concern communication skills ...... Any university students need to take 6 hours exam in one day and not allow to leave the venue by the time, can't talk, forced to eat the disgusting lunch, cold drink in Canada winter time, the room temperature is cool.. can't fix the heat over 4 hours and made lots of candidates got cold.. and needed to ask for several times then allow few of us to get back the coat.. everyone of us were wearing nurse attire.. short sleeves and thin cloth.. How can we get a good results.. after 95 MCQ questions.. i have already exhausted due to the chills, then feeling nausea after having the disgusting sandwiches. Afterthat, the 12 stations OSCE has already made me pass out.. If anyone can pass the exam, I can only say the questions stem has already been spread out... If they really want to earn money, they'd better allow all the applicants to take a 1 - 1.5 years courses to make a win-win situation. They can open up more lecturer/ professor position in all universities, can train all the IEN to become their model like Canadian Nurse, ... >.
