hi melcahussey, lg_loveliegrace, RN and @kizmwah

I'm in the same boat as you 3.. ive beeen here in the UK for 5 years now and just thought about going back to my nursing career hence im applying for NMC.. im due for my CBT exam next week. its been 5years since I last practiced and I have no idea where to start my review.. however since i studied social services here im quite hoping itll be a bit easier as they share nearly the same code of practice and laws.. hoping to get some insights from yous and wanted to ask if you faced challenges with the registration with the fact that you were out of practice for 5years?

many thanks

You may have issues, this is what is stated on the NMC website

Practice requirementsAt the time of the application, the applicant must have practised as a registerednurse or midwife for at least 12 months (full time or the part-time equivalent) afterqualifying. This post-registration experience must be relevant to the field of practicethe applicant is applying for. Any practice that is not covered by registration cannotbe considered for the requirement of 12-months post-registration experience.

If the applicant has been qualified for longer than this, they must have also practisedfor at least 450 hours in the previous three years. We define 'practising' as workingin some capacity by virtue of their registration as a nurse or midwife. Practice caninclude administrative, supervisory, teaching, research and managerial roles as well asproviding direct patient care. This can also include volunteer work as long as anypractice is registered. If the applicant has not undertaken any duties as a registerednurse or midwife in the three years prior to making their application, they shouldcontact us to discuss available options.

Hi sliverdragon,

the work experience that i submitted to nmc is my volunteer staff nurse experience from jan 2 2012 to feb 28 2013. The forms were received by nmc last jan 13 2015. I received my feedback asking me to send a letter signed by my enployer asking me to prove that i was required to be a registered nurse to play the role of a volunteer nurse.

According to ir post, NMC stated in their website :

If the applicant has been qualified for longer than this, they must have also practisedfor at least 450 hours in the previous three years.

Can you please xplain this statement from the NMC? aside from the jan 2 2012 to feb 28 2013 experience, i have another volunteer staff nurse experience from april1 2015 up to present. Those were my only nursing experience. Do you think, they will require me to prove that i had 450 hrs of practice in the past 3 years since the work experience that i submitted is from jan 2012 to feb 28 2013?

Thank u

Yes I think you will need to submit proof that in the last 3 years you have worked 450 hours as a nurse but really the right answer will come from the NMC

Hi Tian,,

Their employers are private nursing homes around the UK. Mostly midlands area. They don't deal with NHS yet because NHS have and uses their own accredited agencies.

Hello Andrei and LouieRudolfKim

I had the same experience last year. NMC asked me to submit a confirmation letter from my employers stating that my role as a "Staff Nurse Trainee" required me to be registered. I was really confused and frustrated upon receiving that feedback and I didn't know what to do. I even called them up several times to ask what do they really want to me to submit, but they just kept on reading what was written on the feedback section as if they also don't have any idea what was being asked of me. What I did was just ask my referees to make a simple letter stating that I was a registered nurse while I was doing my practice and they required me to be an RN for me to be admitted to their training program. It was written in an official letterhead and was stamped, but as per NMC a stamp isn't really necessary. Then luckily after 2 weeks I had my decision letter. Good luck to the both of you!

hi @orlando_lewis27

That is my problem right now. NMC had asked me to submit a confirmation letter because i've worked as a volunteer nurse. May i ask if the letter should be handwritten? I really need your advice. Thanks a lot!

Hello!

I had my letter typewritten in an official letter-headed paper. It might not look official if you have it handwritten and the NMC might question it again. If you can also have it stamped or sealed, though as per NMC it is not really necessary. Please just comply with what NMC is asking as soon as possible. I submitted mine days after I had the feedback and got my DL after two weeks. Good luck!

Thank you very much orlando_lewis27! I'll update you once i receive my DL. God-willing :)

Hi there! Thank you for sharing that experience. I want to clarify that they asked both of your referees to submit a letter? I was asked by them to submit just my second referee. I am really anxious seeing that I havent got any feedback from them. They uploaded my document just days ago on my website.
