I have been studying for the NLN test since 1st part of May. I have been using the NLN review guide, 3rd edition and completed two of the comprehensive tests. I have not scored as high as I would of hoped
Can anyone out there give me any idea of how the real test will be? or any advice?
Is it harder than what is in the NLN guide? similar? easier?
Thanks!!!

I think the test questions were simiilar, but the actually test was more difficult. I think the review of the science section is more of an overview rather than a review. I found that the question were more in depth then in the NLN book, and that it only helped in a couple of questions. I have a good background in Bio/Chem/A&P so that is what helped me in that section. The math section I though was similar and studying strictly from the review book was sufficient for me. Just make sure and practice getting the math section done within the amount of time that is given. Because you can't use a calculator it took longer than I thought it would. There were alot of word problems and fractions on my exam.

JUPITER19... and others,
How would you suggest preparing for the NLN? What sources would you use if you were taking it again? Any sites where I can get practice exams that are more close to the real thing.
thank you
The best guide to use is still the NLN book and the CD it comes with for practice questions. The only thing I would do different would be to review my old Bio/Chem/A&P notes. I've read others on the site say that it is not that hard/bad a test, but for me, I think the science section contains question that you have to have learned in school (whether HS or College) at some point. Hopefully others have some better suggestions.

I would have to say that I agree with Jupiter. The math was similar but the time is 60 minutes for 54 questions. On a question that referred to volume it give me the formula. So def study the book for that. For the science I definetely think it was really hard. I would focus my efforts on Physics. That really killed me. I felt like I hadnt studied. Also, brush up on your vocab. ability definetely took me down. Hope that helps. But dont be nervous it will all work out.
As far as physics goes, did the test have any formulas that were not in the book?? I have memorized all the formulas so far and feel I have a basic understanding of the physics. So, are you saying that the sciences tests in the NLN study guide are nothing like the real test???? How much time did you spend studying for the exam???
Thanks
it's prett much all from the book. Just know how to use them if your given certain parts. Also, there are alot of charts.

For the science section I used a mixture of my previous knowledge from my science classes and a lot of the info. from the book. The science section of the book reflected the questions on my exam. The math portion definitely does help explain the math well, but definitely focus on timing because the time can run out before you know it, so whatever short hand way you can remember for doing math problems use it!! For the vocab and reading section I studied SAT words and tried to read the New York Times regularly to help build upon it. Its a lot of work so i would dedicate several hrs a day to studying.
Can people reply with raw scores, composite score and their percentiles, so it will give me an idea of how the test is scored?
well the scores are just whatever you get right. The exact way percentages are made are difficult to calculate. They are against the other people in the test pool.
Was your test score similar to what you were scoring in the comprehensive tests???
the math yes. The practice tests were much higher than what I scored. You have to remember the real test has I think 60 sci- 54 math and 60 in vocab . Oh man I can't remember if it was that or more. I def thought it was harder than the practice tests.
