I have been studying for the NLN test since 1st part of May. I have been using the NLN review guide, 3rd edition and completed two of the comprehensive tests. I have not scored as high as I would of hoped
Can anyone out there give me any idea of how the real test will be? or any advice?
Is it harder than what is in the NLN guide? similar? easier?
Thanks!!!
I got the NLN review guide. I also started reviewing my A&P text since it had been while for me since taking A&P, which included basic chemistry as well. I didn't focus too much on verbal since I knew that counted last and I was "okay" with the score I was getting on the verbal practice exams. I read all the info before the practics exams and if there was anything that I hadn't known or remembered I took notes. I also took notes on all the questions I got wrong while taking the practice exams and made a point to research the info if I needed to. It took me about a week of studying the review guide and taking the exams and then I had all my notes. I wrote down all the physics equations I didn't remember from college in my notes as well. For a few days before the exam I studied my notes a couple of times as well.
My raw scores were pretty right on with how I was doing on the practice tests. 50 of 60 verbal, 37 of 40 math, 54 of 60 science (141 total). You have to remember though, there are 20 extra questions per verbal and science that are experimental and get thrown out. You then have your composite score which is the number of ALL the questions (including experimental) that you got correct. Mine was 153, so I got 12 of the experimental ones correct as well (141+12=153). Then there's the composite percentile score. Mine was 99. Which means, out of 100 people taking the test, I did better than 99 of them. DI is a diploma program. AD is an associate degree program. And ALL is all programs. You'll have a composite percentile score under each one. Also remember, they throw out questions that everyone gets wrong, which is why my percentile was so good. Chances are the ones I got wrong, everyone was getting wrong. HTH
Thanks for all the posts here (especially njmomstudent). I took the exam last week.
I felt good about (and finished within the time limit) both the reading/vocab. and math sections. In the science I ended up guessing/"bubbling in" the last five questions in the last two minutes without having time to thoroughly work through the problems.
The science was definitely more detailed than in the study guide, the reading/vocab. and math, IMHO, are on par with the study guide. Time becomes the issue in all three sections.
On the study guide practice tests I was getting 85-95% right.
I will try and post my results when I get them.
