NLN-PAX EXAM AT CUNY

U.S.A. New York

Published

I have a BSc. degree from Jamaica, but i want to change my area of study to nursing (RN). i went to Medgar Evers yesterday for admissions counselling and found out that the deadline for fall 2009 had passed. i wouldn't be able to get into college until spring 2010. She told me i'd have to do the prerequisites and then sit the NLN-PAX before i can apply to get into the programme. The problem however is that i would have to complete the pre-requisites b4 im allowed to sit the NLN which is only offered by Medgar b/w March & April. That means if i enter Medgar spring 2010 and sit the pre-reqs, i wouldn't be able to sit the NLN until spring 2011 because i cant sit it until i complete the pre-reqs. i really cannot wait that long...that is just ridiculous. does anyone know of another CUNY school that offers the NLN during the fall semester, or one that doesn't require NLN....

i really need to start my career. help:confused::confused::confused:

I can only speak for Bronx Community College, they offer the Pax-RN twice a year, usually in April and November, however you still have to complete the pre-reqs before they will let you sit for the pax-rn, I am sure most CUNY schools are the same, I know it seems like a lot of junk to go through but believe me when you get into your nursing classes you will be glad you did they pre-reqs especially the A&P 1 and 2, good luck to you.

thank you very much:saint:...i'm going there on monday to get some admissions advice...i really want to get started

If you don't mind spending $$, I'd recommend private schools. There's no wait and some don't require entrance exams.

I've realised that the CUNY schools are geared to have students enrolled for 4yrs to complete a 2yr course; sometimes even longer bcuz of their ridiculous waiting lists. I applied to Monroe, passed my entrance exam and got accepted. I started a few days ago..its more expensive, but at least I start my nursing courses right away. I'm so excited.

Monroe is in Bronx, NY (Jerome Ave & Fordham Rd). They don't offer BSN yet. They do a 1+1 programme, that is, after 1st year u are eligible to sit NCLEX for ur LPN license, and after 2nd year - if u choose to continue - u sit for the RN license. It's an Associates programme but they collab with BSN programmes if u r interested
