NJCU ABSN 2015

Published

The application for NJCU is open for both Wall and Jersey City! I thought I would make a thread for this years round of applicants. We can share our experience with NursingCAS and the HESI.

Hope y'all find this!

Hi All!

Anyone else plan on working while in school for the 2015 cohort? I have loans from my previous degree as well as additional loans I'll have to take out for the ABSN and I just cannot imagine not working to help offset some of these expenses as well as gas costs.

Hey katmos!

I will not be working while in school because I have heard from many people who have done accelerated programs that it is very rigorous and time consuming. I don't want to risk getting bad grades because I have to go to work and be tired all the time, but that is just me. I also have student loans from my previous degree so it will be hard :/ Have you applied for scholarships? I am applying for scholarships to hopefully help with the cost. Also, I'm calling local radio stations when they are giving away money hahaha maybe someday I will be that lucky caller.

I have a night job. And I'm going to try and do that 2-3 days a week and some weekends. But I'm quitting my day job as a physical therapy aide. Just because the schedule will not work. But if it becomes too difficult I might quit working in general until after the program is done. As for your loans check to see if you can get them deferred since you will be a full time student. That's what I'm doing for mine.

That's what I'm hoping to do but finding a night job is proving to be quite difficult. I work during the day now but will have to leave b/c of school.

Your'e right about getting them deferred but there is still interest...and my credit card lol unfortunately.

Very impressive that you are working both jobs now. Can I ask where you work nights?

haha love your optimism...hey every little bit counts!

Katmos, I also recommend looking into the NurseCorp loan repayment program after we graduate :) it pays 60% of your nursing loans including private loans, but you will have to work in underserved area for two years. If you do three years then they pay off 85% of nursing student loans.

hey all you JC cohort members. Idk if anyone is still checking this but just in case- if you applied for financial aid/ a Stafford (federal) loan and received your financial aid award letter and it was not the full 12,500 that they told us we should get at orientation- make a phone call to your financial aid advisor and question if you qualify for it. I called today regarding it and the woman in financial aid told me that basically all Accelerated Nursing students qualify for the full amount and she had my account updated to the full amount right away. hope this helps some of you! see you all in September and enjoy your last few months of freedom!!

hey thanks, did you call the person we talked to at orientation or the one listed by last name in the letter? i tried calling the latter last week but nobody picked up, probably left for 4th of july... thanks again!

I called the specific counselor for my last name. She was really nice and helpful. Told me the rest of the loan would be posted by the end of the day and it was. Try calling your specific counselor tomorrow! Glad I could be of help

Hi, how do we find out who our financial aid advisor is by last name? Thanks :)

If you received a financial aid award in the mail, in the envelope is a contact information paper and it will tell you which counselor to call

Thanks! I haven't received it yet, but I did find the page online telling us our councelors. Thanks again :)
