NJCU ABSN 2014!

Published

Hi! Just thought I would start a new thread for NJCU, 2014 applicants! - Any thoughts/concerns regarding the application process or help from alumni is greatly appreciated! I'm applying to the Wall cohort for this May.

Just out of curiosity...do you JC people have the same orientation date of 4/10 with Wall, or is it sometime during the summer months? It would be nice to meet everyone since we've started this journey together (hesi/nursingcas/acceptance).

No, unfortunately our orientation is different. We are meeting June 26th.

Hello!

Congrats to everyone who has recently been accepted! I have been placed on a waitlist but I'm not sure if it is for Wall or JC (the letter doesn't say). Either way, I'm ecstatic it was not a flat out rejection. This is the only school I applied to so I'm praying a spot opens up!!

We're praying for you tinemarie! Hopefully a spot will open up for you and johndabaker soon so you can relax and enjoy your spring/summer! :)

Hi everyone! I just signed up for AN, and I was accepted into the fall cohort for NJCU. Can't wait to meet everyone!

Welcome, jennotjenn! Congrats on your acceptance!!

Hello All!

My name is Caitlin and I am the President of the current cohort in JC. Just wanted to leave a comment in case anyone has any questions! Congrats to all those accepted so far!

Hi Caitlin,

So nice of you to sign on and check up on the upcoming class! Thank you! How do you like it so far? If you can give someone your best advice, what would it be?

Not a problem at all! I absolutely LOVE it! I can say that it is definitely a bit unorganized at times, but what program isn't? LOL! I think the best advice I could give you is work on your time management skills. It gets crazy busy - assignments, papers, clinicals, ect. Try to get as much done as you can as early as possible so that you're not freaking out at the last minute. It's a lot, but it's doable. I would say about 90% of my class is not currently working because this program is too consuming. If you can get by without working, I suggest you do so. The first semester is busy, but the second semester is even busier (im in the 2nd semester now- almost done, thank god!). I'm actually working on assignments due in a couple weeks. Like i said, better to get things done early!

Awesome..thank you! So time management is definitely one of the keys to success! I'm actually very excited about this program and anxious to start. Is there anything that you would suggest doing prior to the start of the program? I have no medical/healthcare experience, so I'm worried that I'm going to be completely lost the first few classes :( Should I read up on anything or study anything in particular before classes start in May?

Don't worry I had zero experience! The only thing I can suggest before you start is to go over calculations.. you will get a book at Orientation and I suggest doing as many chapters as you can (they told us we should have had 20 chapters done when e started in September, but no one said that at orientation). The med calc test isn't bad at all but it's better to get acquainted with it early

Sounds good...Thank you very much for all your help! Good luck with everything :)
