Hi there! Just wanted to get in conctact with other applicants who are applying to the Scholar Practioner Program at Nipissing University.
We could use this thread to talk about different components of the application.
Cheers :)
Since the program is so different and we don't have actual lectures there isn't a campus. I'm not really sure where the like seminar type stuff happens but I'm assuming it's in the building where we had our interview. When I was walked out of my interview, I went through a large conference room type thing so maybe there? But yeah no campus unfortunately!
Yeah, there's no campus! Everything is held in the building where we had our interviews. After my interview, the lady walked me out and she told me that the conference room we saw is where the classroom portion is held. It holds about 50 students, so our whole class. :)
A little bit off topic, but has anyone looked into place to stay in downtown Toronto close to the Nipissing campus? I feel like it's so hard to find a reasonably priced place and roommates!
I live in Toronto currently but may be open to sharing a place with people from the program, if it was less expensive than my current rent! I also think living with roommates in your program helps haha
Another off topic thing but are any of you hoping to doing a Masters of nursing after your BScN? Do any of you have an idea about whether or not schools would accept this program when applying to a masters? I'm a bit worried they may not accept it because its so different from other programs that are more rooted in theory etc (i.e. UofT). Curious if any of you have thought about this too or have heard anything! @futurenurse612 do you have any insight on this? Thanks :)
I was wondering the same, however I assume they would accept the program since it is an accredited program? We would be receiving our BScN, and we do receive marks and a GPA. Also, I found a document on the Nipissing website that translates the different phases (Inquiry, Transformative, Reflection) into actual NURS courses which I think is what the Masters programs would look at! This is just my opinion though :)

Good to know! Yeah those are totally valid points I hope you're right :)

YES I'm planning to do a masters after as well and this has been plaguing me since I got my acceptance!! I'm sure it would count since we would have a BScN and would become RNs just like those from Uoft, McMaster, Queens, etc. Still waiting to hear back from UofT!

Yay nice to know there are others in the same boat haha. Also waiting on UofT.. what would you pick if you also get in there??

Definatly interested in advancing my career as a Nurse after a few years in the field. I don't see the SPP program being a downfall when applying to masters programs -- if anything, the self-directed learning style and heavy practicum element may help with a clinical based masters or with becoming a Nurse Practitoner. Just my thoughts though :)
I'm thinking of a Masters as well, but am unsure about how the SPP program plays into it. I have been accepted to both Nipissing and Queens and they have completely different teaching styles. I don't think I can go wrong with either one though. But I'm not sure what employers think (Im thinking Queens may have more name recognition and would be more familiar to me in terms of teaching style.)
Do you guys think employers know about and respect the SPP progroam over Queen's' AST program? How about Masters programs? In a bit of a pickle over which to choose, and if I get accepted to U of T, I still dont know which would be the smart move to choose. In general, does anybody know the pros and cons of each second entry program in terms of employer awareness and easy of furthering education? I thought Id reach out to the community and see what you folks thought.
