Nights or Days? What say you?

Published

I was talking with a few people about this and it got me wondering, what do you as a nurse prefer to work and why?

Me, I love working nights. Usually a lot more autonomy(depending on your unit) Not nearly as many distractions and I'm just a night owl.:D

Only thing I do not like working nights is having to call the on call doc sometimes(you know they love it)

Days for sure! I have worked some nights......ugh, my hormones were out of wack for 2 days. Everyshift has there pros and cons as well as every shift can be busy. I like to stay busy, makes the day go by faster and typically days are always busy.

I'm a total night owl. If I had my way, I'd proabably work straight night shifts. I hate getting up early. I hate it when the day nurses act as if my job is easier than there's, but they have no idea. We get alot of admissions on night shift, and we don't have a pheblotomy team, so we do all of our own blood draws. I stay busy on nights, but I enjoy it!

I actually like working nightshift. I find that there aren't as many people in my way and I actually get to spend more time caring for my patients with fewer interruptions. The only thing I don't like is that we have fewer resources on nights.

Another vote for night shift. Worked 18 months on days and hated it. Families, bigwigs, politics, etc. New job and back to nights.:yeah::yeah:
