Hello
I was wondering about 'weekend differentials"--which (when working nights) days count--fri sat sun? I am wondering if Sunday 7 pm-7 am would get only a reg evening diff--or the weekend diff
Thanks

Here, if you work a Friday night shift, the diff kicks in at midnight that night. If you go in at 7 p.m. on Sunday, you get the diff from 7 until midnight. After midnight, it's Monday and no diff.
Is this true at most hospitals..or does it vary from hospital to hospital>?

Totally depends on your facility's policy. At mine, a 'weekend' is considered Saturday and Sunday, for whatever shifts you are normally scheduled to work. That is, since I work nights, Sunday night from 11-7am Monday is still part of the weekend. Friday nights are NOT weekend, regardless of shift.
Then again, we don't get differentials for weekend work, but we DO have to work every other weekend as part of our normal scheduling. Not in addition to it, of course, just as part of the same number of days/hours. We do get nighttime differentials for ANY night we work, weekday or weekend nights the same.

Our weekends start on Fridays at 0700. You work 0700-1900 you get your diff. You work 1900-0700, you get your diff.
Differential for weekends ends Monday at 0700 (or whenever you clock out after your shift..if you have to stay over past 0730 to finish charting or whatever you are still paid your weekend diff because it's still considered your weekend shift).
We make a diff for nights and an additional diff for weekends, making it very nice when you work weekends and nights (as I have done for the last 10 years)...

Our differentials don't divide up in the shift. If you get a diff, it is for the entire shift. At our hospital it used to be Friday and Saturdays for the night shift (7p-7a). I think it was about a year ago they changed it to add Sundays. We now have three nights of weekend pay. I think they changed it because they were having such a hard time getting people to work Sundays. Every hospital is different.

This is absolutely a hospital to hospital thing. I've seen it be very different in hospitals in the same area. Also different for employees at the same hospital (different standards depending on your status; per diem or full-time). It actually changed at my current hospital a couple of years ago by a vote from the employees. I'm not sure there is a "standard". If I were you I would try to find a place that pays diff's from 7pm on Friday until 7am Monday. Not likely but I have worked somewhere that this was the way it was.
