The night shift nurse usually is assigned more patients. There is less ancillary staff available to assist. Specific additional night shift duties, depend on unit policy. For example, you may be responsible to give a bath, perform clerical duties, etc. You will be prepping for OR and procedures.
My current job it's the night shift's job to check the code cart and run the test on the defibrillator. I know some ICU's night shift does the bathing of pt's. Night shift also usually does the pre-op checklist for pts going to the OR. When I was an aide it was the aide's job to make sure the EKG machines had paper, supplies, etc.
