NICUs in Alaska?

My hubby is convinced he wants to move to Alaska so I'm tryin to findOut some info. I want to work in the NICU andWill grad with ADN in May 2012. What are the top NICU in the state? What do they look like...what sort of patients?

The NICU in the state is at Providence Medical Center in Anchorage. I'm not all that familiar with it, but I do know that some little kiddos get sent down to Seattle for care. Not trying to burst your bubble, but I'm not sure that as a new grad you will get into the NICU. But hey, you never know.

I did see that they were offering some internships in L&D nursing - which might be a way to get your foot in the door. Good luck with your future.

The Nicu at Providence only hires RN-BSN due to the level of care required. In addition, I have never seen a new grad there- I believe they want at least 3 years of level 3 NICU experience. look at their website, I know they are actively recruiting nicu nurses and their job descriptions are usually very detailed and spell out exact requirements for their nursing positions.... Good luck!

Id keep an eye out for internships. I always hear they are short staffed so maybe something will pop up!

I'm a NICU nurse here and was hired as a new grad. We are always looking for people, but they do prefer BSN. If you have an ADN they ask you to get your BSN within 2-3years of being hired or something like that but they help pay for it. As the only level 3 nicu in Alaska if a kid needs ECHMO or major heart stuff, they go to Seattle/Portland but we do see and get pretty sick kids from all over the state.

I know this is old but I applied to the new grad NICU position in Anchorage through Providence hospital. Can anyone tell me how it is working there and how the interview process is?

I will be moving to Anchorage as a New Grad(BSN) February 2016. I want to apply to the NICU at the providence hospital. I obviously will not have experience but i do volunteer at a local NICU here in Tucson and hope that helps my resume. Does anyone know if they will have positions opened around that time? I know down here in Tucson they tend to do New grad hiring around July for august start dates and December for January start dates. Im so excited for this move!
