Hello, I was wondering how much NICU RN's make in Texas? Also do hospitals hire new grads? Thank you in advance for any advice given. I'm just trying to compare Texas and Oklahoma and decide what's best for me.

There is too much regional variability to make any sort of generalized statement about a statewide salary. You need to drill down on salaries for the areas in which you are interested.

Dallas/Fort Worth: $22 to $25 hourly for new grads in the local hospital systems. Keep in mind that the metro area is heavily saturated with new grads from all over the country at the present time, and that some of these new nurses are unemployed due to their inability to find jobs.
Austin: $20 to $23 hourly for new grads in the local hospital systems. Austin is another city that is heavily saturated with new nurses from all over the country. The cost of living is somewhat high according to Texas standards.
San Antonio: $19 to $23 hourly for new grads. I've heard that San Antonio is not as glutted with nurses as other major Texas cities, but keep in mind that this city has more nursing schools per capita than any other city in the state. This means heavy competition for NICU slots from local new grads.

I work in the NICU in Houston. My hospital does hire new grads into the NICU. They just started a new system about hiring New RN's. For 3 months you are paid once a month and it is a flat rate of $2K, they also tax it at 25%. At the end of the 3 months you are not guaranteed the job. Although they say that that is their intention when they first offer you the job. As to what they are making when they do finally start getting regular pay check I am not sure. I went into the hospital already having past RN experience.

Rio Grande Valley (McAllen, Laredo, Brownsville, Edinburg, Harlingen) new grads in NICU make around $21/hr before differentials for night shift/weekends.

I work in San Antonio in a high accuity NICU. We hire between 1 and 4 new grads twice a year. They must have their BSN. Starting pay is approximently 22ish. My significant other just started as a new grad in the Methodist hospital system and they are only paying $16 for the first 13 weeks after that they increase to 22 (they just started this). That seems pretty lame to me...
