It's me again, your favorite fan:) :) . Have another question for you--what is the policy at your various hospitals on TRIPLE DYE and cord care? A BIG THANX!!!:kiss

We applied it after the initial bath, to the cord and the surrounding skin. Only one time. From then on, we used alcohol to the cord with diaper changes.

We do not have a cord care policy as such. Ensure nappy is below cord, Willy ( if you are a boy! ) pointing downwards. If it is a mucky cord and the base has become inflammed then it's a course of Erythromycin. But we generally let nature take it's course. Corks

Dry care here--nothing on the cord. Haven't seen triple dye used in a while. Diaper below the cord, and be sure your teaching includes s/s of oomphalitis.

We had about four peds wanted triple dye used after birth. As most of the newer labor nurses don't remember, and the peds haven't made a fuss, it must not matter any more!

Cord care is officially alcohol q 8 prn, some nurses seem to think that means every diaper change. As far as I am concerned, that means almost never.............

I understand that dry care is more effective.

Thank you so much! Oomphalitis... I'll have to look that one up!:imbar

Our healthy newborns receive triple dye one time to the cord, then air dry. In the NICU, our policy is that babies receive alcohol q day to the cord, though they frequently have it more often. Diaper always folded below, of course.

The last we've used Triple Dye has been years ago. For healthy newborn we're using WELEDA Calendula (on plants base) and just in case they've had an umbilical line we're using alcohol.

We had stopped the triple dye but then one of our neos read some new research and "they" have decided to reinstitute the use. Also, one of the pedi docs had a bad case of oomphalitis in his practice (from our hospital, when we were not using it) and has told us mom plans to file a suit!!

We stopped triple dye and alcohol on the cord earliler this year.

Anyone got any research one way or the other? I'd like to read it. :)
