Hilton Head is a beautiful area...I was raised in SC....I would just contact the board of Nursing for the state...you will have to apply by endorsement and probably meet the state's requirements as far as CEUs ect and fill out paperwork so they can verify your nursing status in NY. I shouldn't be too hard. I just had to transfer my license to another state as well. Good luck in your future job. You will enjoy the South and sweet tea! :)
You could also either contact the state board or check the internet and start a list of all the hospitals in the area (usually if you contact the city chamber of commerce and request this, they will send you lots of contact information for the hospitals and clinics in the area). Then, start cold calling them and asking to speak to the nurse recruiter. Ask the recruiter at each hospital to send you information about job opportunities, benefits, salary, etc. and start your collection. Keep a list of your top choices and get to know the recruiters well. My mom moved to Florida a few years back and did this, and she had no problem finding a job in a hospital that she wanted to work in. They're usually very happy to send you that information. Many hospitals now have web sites- you may be able to find photos or testimonials from staff, and you should be able to check out current work opportunities as well.
http://www.savannahchamber.com/relocation/health.shtml is the Savannah Chamber of Commerce listing of local hospitals and health agencies.
http://www.sos.state.ga.us/plb/rn/ is the Georgia state board.
http://www.hiltonheadmedctr.com/CWSContent/hiltonheadmedctr is the only Hilton Head hospital I could find.
http://www.llr.state.sc.us/pol/nursing/ is the SC state board.
Start here! :)
Coming up in April there is an annual Perinatal Update Conference held in Savannah. it is sponsored by the Memorial Health University Medical Center, Dept of Mat/Fetal Med. I went a couple of years ago. It was a good conference. It is a beautiful place. It is held in the Savannah Marriott Riverfront (gorgeous!) and is within walking distance from the historic downtown district where all the beautiful squares are in full bloom in April. Check out the Medical Center for a job too. A lot of the nurses in attendance were from that hospital and it's rival (sorry, I don't remember it's name) and they all seemed to love being there.
good luck on the job hunt. Hope you enjoy living in the Savannah area. I sure enjoyed my visit there!:)

How are you all? I am new to this board but have been a NICU nurse since 1994. My question is sort of general and I'm not sure this is the board to ask, but I am currently in the process of relocating to the Hilton HEad, SC/Savannah, GA area and was wondering if any of you have any suggestions on how to go about this job wise. I am currently licensed in NY CAN"T WAIT to get down there!!!!!! Any advice? Thanks in advance and by the way.............love this board!
