OK guys - what about the phototherapy kids who throw tantrums when you put their eye shields on, then you look back over in a minute and the eye shield is not only off of their face, but it's at the other end of the isolette! Some of these kiddos could pitch for major league teams.
And isn't it funny how they'll scream bloody murder and thrash around when they've got the eye shields on...and then they fall asleep the second they wrestle the shields off? Just blissfully sleeping, eyes uncovered, with a million watts of light shining down on them...

Oh yeah, the photo babies always have their eyeshields everywhere BUT their eyes. Heehee!

Reminds me of the little girl I had that was on nasal cannula. Fiesty little thing! Every time she'd have an A&B I'd look in her isolette and sure enough ..... nasal cannula in her nose? Nope. She'd have it in her eyes, around her neck ...... anywhere BUT her nose!

I love "Eye-PAP". Oh and the poop squirts. Nothing like finding and scrubbing the poop out of isolette after a blow out!

I had a kid recently do a projectile poop onto another kids brand new car seat! Mom really loved that! It was, like, 5ft away!!

I've only been a NICU nurse for about 5 months..soooo lemme see...

-Trying to figure out why a baby's isolette is going nuts...and look inside to find the baby with the temperature probe in her mouth, sucking on it like a pacifier

-Monitor leads stuck to a baby's forehead

-One little boy who was on phototherapy and a nurse wrote "Name Me Daddy" on his eye patch because Mom and Dad were still deciding on a name

-A male nurse looking absolutely furious and when asked what's wrong...he replies "I've been peed on"

-Baby sleeping with a pacifier in the nostril lol

I'm a big fan of the "pacifier in the ear" myself...

That is absolutley disgusting!!! What did they do, just clean it???

    I would have died!

All we could do was clean it off-I used those disinfecting wipes. And then continued clean up on aisle 5's rug, bassinet, etc. The baby had been on antibiotics, hence the liquid effluent.

Having a mother say to me "thank you for taking care of my baby". Gives me the chills EVERY DANG TIME and makes my night, no matter how bad, 100 times better.
The other night a Dad phoned to check on his baby and said "Thank you for taking care of our princess" and added "We missed you" (I had worked just the night had only been 12 hours)

Having all three of your ad lib on demand babies wake up and start screaming at once... and to have help from every single nurse in your room (and a few from the room next door) offering to help, feed, fetch things, etc. Seeing such great teamwork and willingness to work together ALWAYS makes me smile and realize how lucky I am.

Seeing the first micropreemie you'd ever taken care of get ready to FINALLY go home with mom and dad a (relatively) big and fairly healthy baby. That just happened today, and it was a great feeling.

I love the little ones that don't simply squirm out of the most comfortable nest you've made, but also managed to leave their diaper behind and when you look into the isolette there's a little bum pointing straight up.

Another of my favorites is taking a picture of something that a little one has done when the parents aren't around and then being able to give the picture to mom/dad the next day and laughing about it all over again with the parents.

Good luck on your day back!
