Hello all! I am hoping to pick some brains in this group. I am currently a staff nurse in a Neonatal ICU with about 10 yrs experience. I am looking for a little more flexibility than 12 hour niights can bring me and interested in home visits. I only have about a year total adult exp at the beginning of my career and was hoping for peds or maternal/newborn anyway. I am NY and looking for any input I can get! Thanks inadvance for your help!!!!

As long as you are willing to learn and realize that Home Health is very different from the hospital experience, you will probably be fine. As I stated in a similar thread--I have a RN friend who also worked NICU only for about 7-8 years, and lost that position--I encouraged her to give home health a try and got her to go on a "ride-along" with me. At the first visit, she had a panic attack and told me she felt like running out of the home. Ultimately, she could not make the transition from NICU to dealing with adult patients(maybe she didn't really like nursing period) anyway, she is no longer a nurse. Please be very patient as it takes awhile to adjust to the demands of Home Health. :)

You could always pick up some per diem and see if you like home health.

I'm getting closer! I ws in touch with a pediatric home care agency and inquired about some visits and short sifts. It seems like a good way to get my feet wet and still be available for my daughter on her bad days of chemo. Any advice out there?
I am interviewing this week for the HH position. I a so happy to hear they were looking for peds and NICU experience. Hoping to get visits and short shifts still. Any of you able to do just that? Thanks for all the info on this board!
Tomskatt let us know how it goes.

I am a NICU nurse and currently interviewing Monday for a position with a peds home health care agency as a Nurse Suupervisor. I have floated to peds and PICU but not as much experience as in NICU. Does anyone have any advoce for me, please? I am very excited and interested in this position. I have done pharma sales and the environment and liefestyle is very different than shift work and I think it will be similar to that of home care.
I am looking for any advice on the day in the life of a nurse supervisor or what should I focus on in preparation for the interview. I have my Peds NCLEX review out as a refresher! Any advice would be great! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
