NICU nurse and pregnant

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and I will be able to take 12 weeks off before returning to work. However, i'm Certain I won't be able to make it. The hospital I work at does 12 hour shifts. Has anyone gone back to work but went back to something that wasn't as demanding as being a NICU nurse?

What about the job makes you think it will be too demanding for you after you return from your maternity leave? Is it the hours, or...?

12 weeks?! Up here, we get can choose between 12 and 18 MONTHS!

Are you worried about childcare? Being unable to separate you emotions between your patient and own babe? Physical concerns?

We are a very large unit and have usually have 5 nurses on maternity leave at any one time. They all come back to working 12 hr shifts.

I work in maternal child and many nurses return from leave and work part time or nights. I worked part-time for a while after having my son. You just have to do what is best for you and your family.

Can you talk to your manager about coming back with reduced hours?
