NICU in Kentucky

U.S.A. Kentucky

I am graduating from EKU in December. I am interested in working in a NICU...I know UK has a great unit, what about in Louisville? My SO is from Louisville and wants to move back there after college and I am not too familiar with the NICUs in that part of the state. Looking for Level 3 if possible! Thanks

Kosair Children's Hospital has a NICU, but getting a position is extremely competitive. Louisville has several nursing schools and Norton Healthcare (Kosair) has a Norton scholar's program, from which they fill positions first. Good Luck!

Kosair Children's, Norton Suburban Hospital both have Leve 3 NICU's and the previous poster is correct getting a job as a new grad won't be easy as they are not hiring ANY external new grads right now due to trying to place their Norton Scholars. I found this out from one of the nurse recruiters. University Hospital I believe also have a level 3 NICU but I'm not sure. There are so many nursing schools in Louisville though finding a job is almost impossible, at least this has been my experience. I'm trying to get on at UK personally.

Who knows, you might want to give it a try regardless. You never know.

yea that's what i was afraid of. Would love to get on at any of those hospitals but I am a small fish in a big pond! Baptist East has a Level 2 NICU i think and I have connections there and also am externing in a Level 2 at Central Baptist in Lex...so I might try there but it doesn't look promising since their unit is VERY small. Maybe I'll have to start out working somewhere else... thanks for the replies :)

I would give it a try at those hospitals anyway simply because you are working as an extern in a NICU. You have a bit of a advantage over general new grads without that kind of experience. I did my 120 hours in NICU, but it doesn't help me one bit.
