NHCTC Laconia & Berlin NOT NLNAC Accredited

Published

I just found out that Berlin & Laconia are not accredited through NLNAC and wonder what this means if I attend there.....

Have you talked to anyone at the school about this? I know it's a fairly new program, so is it possible that they are in the accreditation process or have some sort of provisional status? I'm sure this is a priority for the school, so I would check with them and see what their timeline for accreditation is. Good luck!

They have no timeline. They chose not to be accredited according to a conversation today with Dir. of admissions. It is not pending and not in the works for the future at this time.

Check out this site. It gives info on what they expect for accreditation. Maybe this will help.

Ina, I don't think it matters at this point. For whatever reason, they are not seeking accreditation now and have no plans in the immediate future. It may be that nothing is lacking, but the time/money involved may make it not feasable with all the changes going on right now (seperation from Berlin). Also the seperation may be why they are waiting as they may have to re-apply and go through the process again once the split is final.

I want/need an accredited school so it looks like I will be on the wait list at Rivier for the Bachelors day program. It really makes me sad as I am so involved with the tech, but I have to do what is best for me.

I am sorry:o If you go to Riv maybe I will see you at St. Joeseph or SNMC during your clinicals. Not that I would know it if I did:lol2: I am sure whatever program you end up in you will be an excellent nurse. Your dedication to the profession is already evident.

Wow, I am totally shocked to hear that. I sure hope they have some sort of plan, even if they can't be forthcoming with it yet... Did you apply to any of the other techs? NHTI wouldn't be too much of a hike and they have an evening option. Will keep my fingers crossed for you re: Riv. What a bummer of a situation :o

Thanks everyone! I am not sure if they plan on being accredited or not but I have been accepted into Rivier on a waitlist, but I was #7 and may have moved up. I guess it is a waiting game at this point.

Unfortunately it is too late for me to apply to Manch or Concord as their application deadline has passed.

I am sure things will work out, until then I stress out!!

Could you contact UNH (or UNH-Manchester) to find out if they've had RN-to-BSN applicants from Laconia/Berlin yet and if so how they've handled the fact that the program is not accredited? I just checked UNH-M's web site and they only mention having an RN, so it might not be a problem.

From a job standpoint I would expect you would be fine if you planned to stay within the Lakes Region since they're aware of the program, but otherwise maybe you could contact the HR departments of places you might want to work later and find out if it's a problem for them.

I graduated from Berlin 9 years ago and it wasn't accrediated. When I applie to UMFK for my BSN I told them they weren't accrediated and they said no big deal. Other of my classmates are at UNH and Graceland university finishing up their BSN, one is just got her NP from a college in Maine. I don't think that the accrediation is a big deal. It is a wonderful program and wouldn't pass up on the opportunity. The clinincal experience gives a good deal of hands on experience.
