  1. I have found that the American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine offers a certification for cardiovascular NP's. I've read through the study guide. Does anyone know wha the initial requirements are to sit for the test? Has anyone taken this test or could give me more information about it. Thanks, Cardiovascular NP
  2. Good news. I've been approved. 3 weeks after the start of the second application.
  3. I would have the office help you at the minimium. I'm the one who posted about medicare. The office manager/biller and I sat down and did the CAQH and medicare together and that we were wouldn't miss anything and get it right. Everything has gone smoothly except Medicare which I hope will be okay this time around. I would ask for help and if they won't I would definately look elsewhere. It sounds like as far as completing credentialing and starting employment we are in the same boat. There are also short forms to fill out with each company, but they aren't much, b/c usually at least in my area they get the rest from CAQH. I'm credentialed with everyone, but Medicare at this point it's been a couple months.
  4. Dave, Thanks. the office manager adn I have been doing it together. We've called our carrier, NHIC to answer our questions. Now we find out the answers we were given were wrong and jeopardize my application to the point it was closed and had to start over. If this ever gets approved, I'll be the second provider to this practice. The owner is the other. So this is the second time the practice has had to do this. Yesterday I was told it was still in screening. It's been almost two weeks. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I was told this time that the paperwork that I sent in looked completely it was a matter of processing everything. We'll see how this goes. Thanks for listening.
  5. Dave, I can't tell you how frustrated I am with this processs. I am now on my second medicare application. They gave me wrong info that caused my application to be closed. This took 6 weeks. I was told there was nothing that could be done about it and I had to reapply. I am just devastated. I'm now almost 2 weeks in the process and it is still in screening. I'm getting now where when I call, but I don't want to jeopardize my approval, but I don't feel like there is any justice to this system. It's been 3 months since I passed my exam and everything, but this has occured smoothly. My employer won't let me start until I'm Medicare credentialed, which I can completely understand, but this is so draining. Sorry I just really needed to vent.
  6. Well that sounds encouraging. I will call again later tomorrow or have the office call to make sure things are moving along.
  7. Thanks, I did do the online application. I got a tracking number. I wast told that the goal was 60 days or processing, but could take up to 90 or even 180 days. My understanding is that I can bill back from 30 days before the application was submitted. Is this correct? But that could mean my bills are held onto for 6 months before submitting. This is a long time. I've read about and heard about incident to billing. Can someone please explain this to me.
  8. I spoke with physicians's I knew from the hospital I worked at, but I also wanted to spend time with NP's so I checked out the state NP association and hospital and practice websites and sent out a coverletter and my cv to perspective preceptors. I never had to make a phone call. I was fortunate that all the preceptors alled back and were happy to do it. Networking, searching, and professionalism goes a long ways. I know that some schools won't let you do clinical where you work and especially in FNP programs there is a required number of hours for each speciality, ie peds, family, internal medicine and OB. I agree a primary care clinical is the best for health assessment. ED or urgent care is focused exams. You'll get this in primary care, but you'll get the physical as well.
  9. I'm glad they are going to reimburse you. It's a basic part of practice that is a practice expense. I ended up paying 544 for my insurnace because of the certification discounts. I think it varies with state and speciality though.
  10. I have always had Marsh as an RN. When I got my NP job my employer was going to get it through another organization which was 75% more. We looked into Marsh and we went with them. Much cheapier especially with the 10%. My employer is paying for it.
  11. Elkpark makes some very good points. Make sure you going to be happy with your choice. Talk to others and shadow both specialities. I am a new NP, but intitially thought of being a CRNA. For me I didn't want to have to be away for my family to get my degree and I wasn't thrilled about the idea of waking up to do anesthesia in the middle of the night. I wanted a job with more stable hours that was more rewarding and challenging and allowed me to directly care for patients. At this point I'm happy with my decision and I feel like I'll be able to do this well into my 60's were as a CRNA, I'm not sure. I don't do well getting woken up in my 30's, let alone a few more decades. Everyone is an individual and as long as you are happy with your choice go for it.
  12. Hi, I am a new NP and have filed my Medicare application. I'm the first NP that my practice has ever hired. Can anyone tell me how long it takes for the application to be approved and start seeing patients?
  13. I'm sure you can do it. It sounds like you have thought things out and have a plan in place. I take my last final tomorrow of my ANP program. I am a wife and mother of 3 children, 7 and twins that are 5. The first year I worked 1 day a week. I have done this in 20 months. During this time we also added a new puppy to the household and my daughter got diagnosed with Chron's. Time management, support, and flexibility can make your dreams come true. My kids are very proud of what I've done and they are constantly talking about it at school to their teachers and friends. I think besides a better work schedule for my family it also has shown them to value of education and hardwork. They can't wait to go to graduation next week. Best of luck to you.
  14. Which exam did you take? Do you need collaborative agreements for your states? I've heard that this takes longer in those states. In NH that is not needed so it's more of a straight forward appilication. Any hints on how to get through this.
  15. Thanks. That was what I was hoping for. I hope to be be practicing by the end of July beginning of August.
