Why this procedure over the others? For example, don't you want to be able to tell your patients first hand what it's like to get a Foley? A Bone Marrow Biopsy? an Enclosed MRI? a Colonoscopy? an Enema? a Dorsogluteal IM injection? a Phenergan suppository? a Bladder Irrigation? CPR? :)

tell them a phenergan suppository is the only thing I'd ever rate a ten on the pain scale. owie. wait...don't tell them that, then they won't let you do it.

oh wow I can't believe how brave you all are I can't say in a million years I would want to have an NG tube put in or anything else, I thought it was bad when I had a CT and they improperly straped my head down. I am so impressed that you guys would go out on limb like that for your patients that shows serious care and compassion

In 1976 we were asked as a class to put an NG down each other but only as far as to see the end dangling in the back of the throat. I declined. I vomit having a throat culture done. We did start butterfly IV's on each other but no injections of any kind.

were the people that partook in the NG drop worried or disappointed that they participated in it at all??

Because they weren't offered. (not laughing)

You mean if they'd been offered you would have acquiesced? ( :chuckle )

What an awesome lab partner right here folks!

No, what i mean is that i said that opportunity was offered i did it, and the reason why, and someone was a smart apple about it and ask why i didn't volunteer for other skills. And i didn't appreciate it.

There is no way I would let someone drop a NG down me. Not unless I was about dead or unconcious. Oh and I've had an enclosed MRI before-I feel sorry for my poor patient who has to go cause as soon as I get a few feet from the room I'm going to freak....I have to get one again myself in november for my brain. YIPPIE!

Sorry you took it that way, I read that post as a lighthearted joke. Obviously, you wouldn't be allowed to perform CPR on each other. :)

As for the others, I had dorsogluteal IM injections performed on me from other students, but not the rest of the things. I'd have to pass on a bone marrow biopsy, and probably some, if not all of the others too. lol

Wow, don't let ANYONE do a dorsogluteal injection on you if you can help it! I have permanent nerve damage from a couple years of DepoProvera injections done by an experienced NP. I'm going to limp forever.

I've had an NG tube before - for a surgical procedure. They didn't put it in until I was under anesthesia, so I don't know how it feels going in... but I sure know what it feels like coming back up, and I hate to think about doing this to any patient of mine in the future. Not a pleasant experience! I really hope my nursing school allows us to practice inserting IV's on each other. I would gladly let anyone insert an IV on me, but I really want the practice. I do lab draws in my job at the hospital, and the nurses I work with have already told me that I can practice whenever I want to on them, but until I find out if I can practice in class, I haven't taken them up on it. There are a couple nurses though who have veins like pipelines... I could probably pop an 18 guage in them no practice necessary! :rotfl: It's nice to know that the option is there!

That is crazy, our school never does that kind of stuff. We're stuck working on dummies from 1974. Do you think some one from your school would do lipo on my thighs? My insurance wont pay for it.

BWAH!!!

Yeah, we're learning IVs on the dummies tomorrow. They're sort of robotic or something, and when I was learning to put in a Foley the instructor made it cough and jump.
