Good luck to everyone applying to Newman University's DNAP 2024 cohort! In the words of CRNA Jon Lowrance (Anesthesia Guidebook podcast), competition among applicants ends once CRNA school begins. To help cultivate this mindset, this forum is for applicants to share tips and pearls they've found along the way for preparing for the highly anticipated interview!
I'm reading "Thinking, Fast and Slow," "Make it Stick, the Science of Successful Learning," and "Costanzo's Physiology" to prep! Podcasts like "Anesthesia Guidebook," "Core Anesthesia," and "ACCRAC" have been helpful in giving me an idea of what to expect for both the interview and understanding the stress of CRNA school!
What have you found helpful? What pitfalls do you anticipate? What did you most enjoy from your shadowing experience?

Not yet. Keeping an eagle eye on my inbox tho! I'm planning to touch base next Monday if no one hears anything before then - other schools also wait until the last minute supposedly to catch applicants off guard to see what they know vs what they crammed

Oh geez, that's a scary thought, especially since I've heard that their interviews are hardcore clinical-based. Do you know if they do their interviews in person or virtual?

Last years class was virtual when I was talking to BritG about her interview at work - not sure what this year will bring

Side note: I love your username haha.
HAHAH thanks! I hope we get some news by next week! how have you been studying/prepping for a potential interview? I heard they're heavy clinical based!

I hope that's the case! How have you been prepping for a potential interview?

I hope so too! I have been going over CCRN material, ACLS drugs, studying in depth pharm, and watching lectures in the CRNA School Prep Academy. I have also heard they are heavy clinical based as well. I personally prefer a clinical interview because there is really only one right answer whereas EI questions could go multiple different ways.

Precepting and teaching students every chance I get and following the critical care literature on podcasts. Keeps my edge fresh if I'm consciously making sure I'm understanding what I'm teaching about drips and pathologies. Especially when I tell my capstone student and orientees to approach meds from what receptors they hit and how pH and temp affect pharmacokinetics. Every time I get a student is an opportunity to practice my interview!

Nice, I'm reviewing CCRN book as well as it's been a while since I've looked at it! I'm the opposite, I prefer EI questions over clinical! I feel like with EI you can showcase your personality and way of thinking much better, I rather get a question about what insect I prefer to be than a neuro pt which I'm not very familiar with.

Planning on the longest 30 minutes of my life LOL! I know one of the CRNAs on the panel is hardcore cardiac clinical so if that's your wheelhouse brush up haha! He's super intimidating at first but he's one h*ll of a clinical instructor. He respects honest effort but he'll have you for lunch if you try to bullsh*t an answer!

I'm in the 2023 start cohort. Got my interview email the 25th of October and interviews were first week of November. Acceptance emails went out the week before thanksgiving! We have new administrators this year so not sure if anything will change ☺️
