Newman University DNAP CRNA 2024

Good luck to everyone applying to Newman University's DNAP 2024 cohort! In the words of CRNA Jon Lowrance (Anesthesia Guidebook podcast), competition among applicants ends once CRNA school begins. To help cultivate this mindset, this forum is for applicants to share tips and pearls they've found along the way for preparing for the highly anticipated interview!

I'm reading "Thinking, Fast and Slow," "Make it Stick, the Science of Successful Learning," and "Costanzo's Physiology" to prep! Podcasts like "Anesthesia Guidebook," "Core Anesthesia," and "ACCRAC" have been helpful in giving me an idea of what to expect for both the interview and understanding the stress of CRNA school!

What have you found helpful? What pitfalls do you anticipate? What did you most enjoy from your shadowing experience?

I got my denial email today. I think it's safe to say they are done with interviews.

Yeah I figured, now I just want closure. LOL hopefully I'll get some soon.

Those of you who have heard back with a "no interview" email, did admissions give you feedback?

Those of you who did get a spot, congratulations! If you are open to it, I would love to know your experience (ICU specialty, years of experience), GPA stats, and anything extra you did that helped you stand out as an applicant!

I haven't heard back one way or another but I'm assuming I didn't get an interview and also got lost in the process of "no interview" emails. I just want to continue bettering myself for CRNA school and the application/interview process in general.

I have 4 years experience working at a nationally recognized Trauma 1 hospital in the CVSICU. My GPA is 3.8, have taken Chem 1&2, O-chem 1&2 and Biochemistry, have academic research experience, was a TA for anatomy, physiology, and several chemistry courses, I am a preceptor, teach orientation classes, and earned the CCRN and CSC certifications. I have also served on a couple of committees and quality improvement initiatives.

Just curious, what/who are you sending e-mails to?

Hi BrittG,

As far as I know, there are two cohorts, Wichita and Oklahoma. Does it mean that the Wichita cohort only conduct clinicals in Wichita?

All didactic classes are held in Wichita for both OK and Wichita cohorts. Your cohort assignment is for Clinicals only. So, yes Wichita cohort will do clinical in Wichita. Although, there are some sites we travel to such as Pratt, Salina, Newton, etc.

Thank you BrittG

Absolutely!! ☺️

Anyone know how possible it is to work the first semester? Also, any suggestions for process or taking out loans or where from?

There were very few of us who could actually work. Maybe over the Summer, but expect about 60 hours per week to devote to school starting in the fall.

apply for graduate plus loans by filling out FAFSA. Any private loan that goes directly to the school will just deduct from those funds anyway, so try to exhaust them first

Thank you! For that first fall, what did you schedule look like for class?
