Good luck to everyone applying to Newman University's DNAP 2024 cohort! In the words of CRNA Jon Lowrance (Anesthesia Guidebook podcast), competition among applicants ends once CRNA school begins. To help cultivate this mindset, this forum is for applicants to share tips and pearls they've found along the way for preparing for the highly anticipated interview!
I'm reading "Thinking, Fast and Slow," "Make it Stick, the Science of Successful Learning," and "Costanzo's Physiology" to prep! Podcasts like "Anesthesia Guidebook," "Core Anesthesia," and "ACCRAC" have been helpful in giving me an idea of what to expect for both the interview and understanding the stress of CRNA school!
What have you found helpful? What pitfalls do you anticipate? What did you most enjoy from your shadowing experience?
For those already in the program what do the semesters with clinical look like? I got into the OKC cohort and will be moving to Kansas in the fall but contemplating selling my house vs just renting it out. When clinical starts will I stay in OKC or do I still come to campus more than one or two days a week?

This is my second time applying to Newman and I think this whole faculty change and restructuring was the reason I wasn't given an opportunity to interview. I spoke with the previous director and followed up with her on how to strengthen my application and I took all the recommended classes she mentioned. This application period had no clue who the faculty was and felt like they looked at my cumulative GPA and didn't look at the rest of my application.
Thankfully I applied to 7 schools this round, landed interviews for 2 of them, and offered and took a spot during the interview for National University. While I'm disappointed that Newman again didn't give me an opportunity to interview and show them who I am, I think there's reasons for everything. This "restructuring" and possible accreditation issues could be the universe telling me this school wasn't for me!
Good luck everyone, my best advice is to not give up!
Would you be open to chatting txgypsymurse? I've noticed that we have applied to a couple of the same programs (through common threads I've been in) and wanted to pick your brain about graduate level courses, as well as any tips you have for what you did to improve your application! I've had a few denials thus far and am in the middle of applying to more programs. I'm revamping and strengthening any weak spots as much as I can.
