Newly grad and needs advise...

Published

hi to everyone! i'm a newly graduate nurse and still waiting for the result of the licensure exam. well, i just need some advise for the newly graduate nurses esp. when it comes in applying for a job... i will really appreciate your advices! thanks so much!

The difficult part is UNlearning...if you're planning to work in the US...get the 'right' experience as soon as possible....you will know what I am talking about if after spending two or three years in a hospital with sub-standard practices, you get interviewed and you will realize that those things that you thought was right was actually sub-standard practices.....

I think that was well-put.

For example:

Although some of the Philippine Hospitals are now using Insyte and Abbocath . IV Catheters instead of the butterfly for IV meds. I have no idea if they are using extension tubing to connect the IV Cannulas with the Actual IV tubing like we do here.

That what you mean, JunRN?

hello im a new grad, just bummin out, the results are coming out soon, i hope...

hey there i just want to share my experience.. i also took June NLE and still waiting for the result too...i felt so bum and furious waiting for the result so i applied as a volunteer nurse and was hired immediately. i started last Aug 1 and was assigned to General ward. After a week, the nursing management conducted an evaluation exam for all the volunteer nurses, old and new.. luckily i got the highest score and the Resident Doctors suggested that i should be trasfered to the OR.. wow what a opportunity for me... im so happy!!. Now, I am scheduled for a transfer to the OR on Sept. 1..

The point is even though im not being paid for what im doing, i gain experience and that is what i believe newly grads should have... Don't worry if your not getting any monetary compensation for what you are doing... Experiences and providing service are valuable than money and i believe the compensation that you are looking for will follow after that...:balloons:

Congrats :balloons: I agree with your principle of gaining experience even without remuneration. I too would be happy to make my services available and enhance my knowledge and skills at the same time. But being a volunteer here in our country is defined differently. It's fine that you are not paid for your services, but to require you to pay an exhorbitant amount is not right at all in my opinion. Maybe a few hundred pesos won't hurt (because expenses are incurred even in training), but more than a thousand is already unreasonable. I don't know, but I have yet to find a hospital who asks no monetary payment from your free service :o

maybe you know of one?

i suggest focus on getting a job there, earn an experience, even if your experience is not as comparable to us work experience, at least try to learn the basics, or see what it's like to be a nurse in the real world. personally? i cringe to see those new grads who rush to take their cgfns, toefl or nclexrn...you have no idea what will happen next after you take those exams because there is visa available for anyone who wants to work in the us. i say, get a job there first, not volunteer work, not a call center, but a real job, even if it is in a small clinic..you have to start somewhere, somehow, right? to answer your question, is it possible to take two exams in a year? it's totally up to you.

i'll be taking the nclex next month for ca but i sure would not be flying out of this country soon. though i still don't have any hospital experience on my sleeve, i'm testing early for i know the immigration process is a long process especially now. so while i'm gaining hospital experience here after passing nclex, my immigration papers, hopefully maybe after 2-3 years, are on its way to being approved already.

hi everyone, here's what i've been doing after taking the june 2007 board exams- studying! i'm studying using my nursing DVDs and Audio CDs by ATI-PLAN, MEDS, DREXEL, FEUER, & KAPLAN. i'm so into it that i considered myself enrolling in 5 review centers! we'll of course my favorite is my review with GAPUZ last may.

another tip for those who are rushing to take their nclexrn, especially for those who applied for licensure in california, your license is only good for one year, then when its time for you need to renew it..its not only expensive, but also you need to have your ssn before you can renew it. just another point you might want to consider.

Just making a few friendly clarifications. For CA, a foreign nurse will not be given by the CA BRN a license until they are given a valid US SSN so almost every foreign nurse will only be getting a letter from the CA BRN of an acknowledgment that they passed the NCLEX-RN exam and that they are given 3 years to furnish them a US SSN.

For other states, it's different, esp. in states that does not have a US SSN requirement to give out the license initially and if I'm not mistaken they may also differ on the time expiration but yes when it's time to renew it, they will be asking for the US SSN but for CA's case, it will be the above.

hi thanks for the info.. that was tough considering retrogression is still taking place., unless those who applied in ca, passed nclex and lucky to be there in a year... well better endorse ur liscense to other state if you will renew, if its not possible to get there soon isnt it? another expense though... am i right in that? im open for corrections...

we, newly grads, will really go through a narrow way to get through this... :uhoh21:

you need an ssn to endorse in any state. if you look in any endorsement application, it will ask you for your ssn..
