Just found this great discussion board and wanted to say hi! My name is Ashley and I am a military wife, mother of a preschooler, accountant for a non-profit foundation and if that's not enough, now a nursing student.
I haven't even started clinicals yet but do have my list of stuff to get which is where the questions begin. I'm really just after some recommendations and opinions. I need a penlight, bandage scissors, dual-head stethoscope and white uniform. Nothing in particular, just white with white leather shoes and a white labcoat. So what do y'all think? Any brand preferences for any of these items? And what brand of white scrub pants are of decent enough quality so as not to be see-through?
'Thanks in advance for any tidbits of info you can throw my way. I look forward to getting to know everybody!

I have yet to find any white scrub pants that aren't see through but maybe someone has a brand. If your looking for inexpensive then maybe try ames,(before they go out of business) or walmart. I love using different shoes as it seems better for my feet. Any uniform supply store will have stethoscopes and scissors etc. Sometimes you can pick up great deals on these items at a medical supply store. I hope I helped a little. We have a place called uniform villiage. It's a great place to shop
Good Luck!

first of all ashley, hello and welcome to the board! i would suggest checking your school's book store and a uniform shop for these items. many here have suggested online sites that you may purchases them as well. all the best to you.
p.s. wal-mart has uniforms too.

My RN packet came with a JCPenney catalog order sheet. Last semester I asked a student I saw walking on campus if that was the uniform for RN she was wearing, and she said it was. I then asked if she went through JCP and she said she got it at a local uniform store by the Hospital because it was less expensive.
I also asked my clinical supervisor (she taught the CPR class this summer we had to take) and she said to wait until the semester started to get the uniform since we won't need it until 6 weeks into the classes. My biggest worry is getting the wrong size!
I had a uniform in AZ where I started classes (2 years ago!) and one of the requirements was that we wear "plain, white or neutral, brief style underwear". They said they didn't want our g-strings or pretty hearts showing through the uniform!
Good luck to you!

Hi, Ashley.
If you like to order online, you can try allheart.com
I've never ordered from them, but many of my classmates do, and they've been very happy with the prices.
Good luck! Don't be nervous. :)
I thought of a couple more things you might want to get:
a pocket-size spiral notebook that you can carry with you and write notes in (I couldn't make it without that!)
a white fanny pack to hold everything
support hose (depending on how long your clinical shifts are)--these also help with the whole see-through pants problem
These are all things I used last semester.
Good luck!

Beige panties are the best; looks like nothing to "see" through as opposed to the white that you can see.
Get on the mailing list for local uniform shops so you get the discounts. :)
Oh, and WELCOME to the board!! We're here to help!
