Hey everyone :)
I have a question about the NYU nursing program. I went on their site and called them up and i can't seem to find out what the pre-reqs are for the program. All it says is don't have anything lower than a "c" in your courses. And it doesnt have a minimum GPA either. Does anyone go here? Could someone please give me more info? Also, i looked up scholarships for NYU and they have this program called HRSA. Does anyone know more about this program? They cover your tuition but they want you to work in areas where there's a severe lack of nurses. Where exactly would they place someone? Do you have any choice in where you go?? Thanks so much!

Hi there. Are you interested in the accelerated second degree program? The prereqs for that are listed on the website. You need Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Statistics, Nutrition, Developmental Psych, and a Chemistry with a lab. There is no minimum GPA, but since a C in the nursing program is considered failing, I would assume that you should have at least a 3.0.
HRSA is a government funded nursing scholarship that anyone can apply to. Here is the link that explains everything: http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/nursing/scholarship/
Thank you :)
I 'm actually looking to apply to the 4 year B.S.N program ( i don't have any type of degree yet)

HRSA has many financial aid programs. Some you apply for yourself, others the nursing schools apply for.
I am a PI for 4 HRSA grants for student scholarships. 3 of these are for graduate students only. One is for undergradaute students (for those who are first-generation college students and whose family income is at 200% of the poverty level). We use the FAFSA to determine financial need and family income levels.
Definitely ask the NYU financial aid office what types of HRSA funding they have, and how you would apply for it.
Thank you so much for the information. I definitely don't want to take out $40,000 in loans a year for school, so this might be a good option. Would anyone know what kind of areas you work in once you graduate? Are they decent?

Hello there,
I was just wondering if students who would be doing the accelerated second degree BSN program would be selected for the HRSA scholarship? I'm sure 4 yr students are more likely to get it, but is it unheard of for a second degree candidate to receive the scholarship?
Thanks,
Jason

i would like to know the same information as Jason. As a second degree (well third degree student), can I still qualify for HRSA scholarship.
There is a lot of information about the HRSA scholarship on the website at http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/nursing/scholarship/applicantbulletin/funding.htm. You apply for this scholarship directly. Their website indicates last year they had 4,894 applications for the scholarship this year (and 172 were awarded). Priority goes to those who are enrolled as fulltime students and have an EFC on the FAFSA of $0.
The application closed this year on May 14th. The next application will likely be in May 2010.
I'm still a Junior earning my BS so I really won't be applying until 2011, but thanks for the info. I am really counting on this scholarship. I'm a bit spoiled right now as I don't pay for anything for school now (literally-- free tuition, books, room/board, and even airfare to and from school) and I go to an expensive private school. I will definitely have a $0 EFC, but Im just nervous because even those who qualify are selected randomly. Ugh... so stressed... hopefully it will work out eventually...
