New York Presbyterian Nursing Attendant

Published

Hi I'm new here and I originally posted this in the general forum but I think that posting this in the New York forum might be better. I recently applied to New York Presbyterian Nursing Attendant - BSN Students class of 2017 and 2018 and got a call back for an interview. I was wondering if anyone else has applied and has been through this process. For example, what to expect during the interview, what should I bring with me, what is like working for NYP and etc. ?

I ended up quitting. I was given the night shift with no other choice and it didn't work out for me.

Perhaps you can answer me anyway. How long was orientation for you? Could you get extra shifts if you wanted? How soon was it until you started working?

2 day orientation on the weekend, Saturday and Sunday. Yes, you can pick up as much as 5 shifts a week and no less than 2. 4 weekend days per month required, if working overnight, Saturday into Sunday and Sunday into Monday only, (Friday doesn't qualify). I interviewed in February but the job isn't actually until May.

How far in advance before the event did you submit your application? I did mine just a couple of days ago and the event is Friday. Kind of worried I wont be reviewed in time.

I did it 2-3 weeks prior too. A recruiter calls and does a mini interview and then sets you up for a specific slot on the interview day. But if you don't make this one, I believe there will be another one in February.

I'll be graduating soon so I was hoping to get the experience going before hand. Thanks for your response!

Hi everyone! For those of you who are working as a nursing attendant while in school and have overnight shifts..how is that working out? Is it hard to juggle that while in school?

Id like to know also. I was just hired as a CNA full time at NYP. It comes with amazing benefits such as being union and tuition assistance but the hours are overnight. I'm nervous about balancing it with school so i was wondering if anyone has done this successfully

If you're working at Columbia, the night shift is terribly understaffed. I was only the only one on the floor 9/10 times. When I used to leave work in the morning to head to school I could barely stand. The perks are amazing but the job itself is rough.

jesus..... were you a float or a specific unit?

I was in the float pool... but when I floated to units there was usually no one else or just 1. I remember one day I went to the Oncology floor and the nurse were telling me that their part time Nursing Attendant has been there for 9 years and after many requests, refuses to go full-time because of the burnout.

A little off topic, but anyone here, Nurse or Nursing Assistant currently work or used to work on the telemetry (cardiac stepdown) unit at Weill Cornell?
