Hello fellow nurses,
I am a new hire at New York Presbyterian Columbia in the ER and am scheduled to take their NLN Pharm exam. Is there anyone out there who can give me tips? They only provided me with 5 sample questions and test guidelines. There is no longer a study guide, list of medications, websites, or recommended books... I noticed a few years ago the hospital provided new hires with some or all of theses items. I take the exam next week and am trying to study... If there is anyone who can give me some insight to securing this position (If I fail 79% or worse, I don't get the position) it would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance,
1 Worried RN

There are several threads on this topic.
I know there are many threads on this topic however, They are from 2009 and back. Seems like things have changed considerably since then. however, I will keep looking for more recent threads on the topic.
Then it is very easy to bump one.
It is doubtful that it has changed that much, and if so, most of the posters will not know the changes.

Hi 1CLASSYRN,
Sorry I don't have anything to help w/the ER pharm stuff, but I have a question for you about the process of getting a job at NYP. I am a new BSN and have applied to their general new grad posting (resume/cvr ltr). I have not heard anything, and I know other people in my class received a polite no already. Can you tell me how the process went for you? Sorry I couldn't help with your question. Thanks!! Lola

Lola,
I had one year experience in the ER and a few months of travel experience. I dont know which one got me the position, however if I had not received the phone call and email thenI would have called and made myself known to the manager and nurse recruiter. That is a part of my application process. If I want something I am going to do everything in my power to get it. A hospital like this is hard to pass up. Just make phone calls everyday!!! Start with nursing education, employment services, nurse recruiter... someone from one (or all) of those departments will be willing to help you. Do sit back waiting for them....
Good Luck!!!
:) Thanks a bunch. I actually did not pass by 2 questions!!! However they give you an assessment of the questions you get right and wrong. The nurse educator told me to go over it and I should do fine the second time. I was bummed but got over it quickly!!! I have a great opportunity and am taking advantage!!!!! Thanks

When I took the exam my recruiter told me not to worry if I failed it the first time, telling me that the second exam is "very similar" to the first one.
Good luck!

Congrats 1ClassyRN. Could you please share what was on the pharm exam? I am interested in following in your footsteps and I'd love to know what the exam was like and what was emphasized.
Thanks so much.
