How long from being hired to starting orientation?

Greetings.

I was hired by an HHC Facility in early September. I am still waiting for them to call me to start orientation:cry:.

I am really frustrated with them and the recruiter is no help:(

.

I'm only wondering if anyone knows if it's normal for a new hire to wait for nearly two months to be called in for fingerprinting and background checks to be done by their employer (particularly HHC).

It's crazy how they have not given me a date for orientation and have not called me to come in yet for my fingerprinting:devil:. The recruiter did not seem concerned a few weeks ago, but she did not tell me how long this is supposed to take. I have not been able to reach her for a few days now.

I will be walking in there on Monday to find out what's going on.

Any help, feedback, insight would be appreciated:wink2:.

ETA: It's a staff nurse position

Which HHC facility is this? One of my friends experienced the same thing. Usually once hired they tell you to come in and get fingerprinted and sign the contract (agreement of salary) sort of thing. Then after that you will join the next available orientation group and there is usually 1 or 2 a month.

It was Harlem.

I would expect to have already done the fingerprinting since I got hired the day after labor day.

I thought that would be done well ahead of my start date. I'm annoyed that I have not been contacted yet. There has to be an orientation coming up soon for me.

Thanks for your input. I think I will pay them a visit.

I used to work for HHC and the process took FOREVER. From the day of my interview when I was offered the job to the day I started orientation: 112 days. It was very frustrating to say the least. In the middle of the waiting period (during which no one was able to tell me what the timeline would be....) I turned down another position.

My advise is to keep calling the hospital's nursing administration to check on the progress. Call them once a week and ask them - is there anything else you need from me?

Before your paperwork can go to central HR and the fingerprinting can happen, they need to schedule your employee health appointment to get cleared. This will include the drug testing. After health clearance, it's up to your hospital's nursing admin. to send your paperwork to central HR. Metropolitan Hospital I would guess if you're in Harlem. They call you for an appointment where you get your offer letter and do all the other paperwork, fingerprinting, etc.

Good luck!

Thank you so much Edmia!

I actually called earlier today and they said they were waiting for paper work (documents) from the hospital regarding the position. I take this to mean finance.

It's ridiculous that they do this to people. I think I will look for something else because I sure don't have 3 + months to waste waiting on them.

Thanks a mil though!

A friend of mine was hired a few weeks after me. She just went in to HR today. Can you believe they told her that they have a bunch of applications "on hold" and cannot say when they will call those people to start:angryfire? They are awaiting approval form their executive director.

They never called to tell this to any of us. I have spoken to the recruiter and she made me call hr. I never got to speak to the contact person because she would not return my calls for anything. They told my friend that the recruiter has been directing people to come in to hr or to call hr even though they told her that they applications are on hold! She didn't even tell me that. If that wasn't a sign...

I am so angry at these people. I will be moving on now of course.

I guess it's better for something like this to happen before I started working for them then to end up getting screwed (even jeopardizing my license say) as an employee.

Just wanted to give you an update.

*bump* I interviewed and a week later was offered a verbal hire by HHC hospital, 5 days later completed, physical, medical clearance, finger printed and waiting on background check to clear. (waiting its been a week) they said it might be another week. I don't even have a preliminary letter or anything on paper that says hired was told after the background check comes back clean then they'll ground check. I'd like to know if i should take a part time job someting so i'm not waiting and poor if this is going to take a wihle .. as in 1/3 year

Can anyone else share thier experience with being hired at HHC?

I got offered a verbal hire on the 9th at KCH right after my interview. The ADON that hired me told me that the process of getting hired can take up to a few months because of the bureaucracy that is involved.

The only thing that I have done so far is the pharmacology exam that I needed to do to get hired. But when I called HR at KCH, they informed me that they would call me when they get all my paperwork together and then I would do my fingerprints, medical, etc.; and when I'm cleared, I would be in the next orientation class.

Thanks and it seems i too will be taking a whlie as its been 3 weeks since "hired" yet still no orientation date. It would do a whole lot of good to just give applicant a tentative offer on paper, tell them it takes 2-3 months. This way I know to get a pt job, go on vacation...instead one week goes by, I call they either do not pick up or say maybe next week and the next.
