BMCC Nursing Program Spring 2018

U.S.A. New York

Hello Everyone,

Today we took the Kaplan Entrance Exam and I thought it would nice for us to share feedback and get to know each other as we wait for a phone call.

I found the reading and the math sections to be fairly easy while the writing section was confusing. Science wasn't easy but more manageable.

I scored 71% with 3.7 GPA for pre-req. It's on the low side but still hopeful

Thanks for your support :)

Hello to all,

Congratulations for making it this far. I hope you all get in! For those who do make it in the program here is some advice I wish I would have gotten before entering the program:

1. The fundamentals textbook alone is enough, everything you need to know is in that book, as for the online resources ...you can manage with YouTube videos and do some research for nursing skills and techniques. As for the simcharting, you can purchase that separately on the Elsevier website.

2. Nursing central is a great tool, but it is pricey. You can essentially google the information you need, and you'll be just fine. (google drugs and their functions/side effects)

None the less if you have the money and want to buy the whole shabang go for it! But in all honesty I purchased every book listed and only really touched the fundamentals book! ...I ended up selling all the textbooks back to the bookstore except for the fundamentals book.

4. Reading is life lol, and if your class is provided with PowerPoints pay close attention to the details in the "notes" section of each slide, that is where most of the important content is.

3. PRACTICE QUESTIONS ARE THE KEY TO SURVIVAL! Take as many as possible ...it will take some time to adjust to the question and answer choices.... Sometimes the answer choices are all correct answers, but they want you to select the answer that is best for the patient& situation.

4. TAKE IT ONE TEST AT A TIME!

5. I recommend you buy 2 sets of scrubs for clinicals, it can get messy... really fast lol.

6. Before entering the program I was used to getting nothing but 90s or better, you will soon realize that it is challenging to maintain that streak in the program. The goal is to reach the finish line even if it means crawling to it. Don't focus on grades, a test # doesn't determine the type of nurse you're going to be just make sure you pass. There is always time to reflect on better answer choice and always room for improvement. What matters most is that you understand the material.

It's so kind of you to give such insight. I am very thankful for this information.

Hi guys,

Just wondering if people have begun to receive calls from Mr.Sierra? The suspense is killing me and the spring semester is right around the corner.

Has anyone received calls so far from Mr. Sierra?

I am anxiously waiting for any result...

He said he will let students know after 01/03/2018...

Thank you so much for taking time out of your day and writing this, it means a lot to me and I bet to many others on here too! :)

This is great insight for the incoming spring 2018 students and going forward.

Hi guys,

Just wondering if people have begun to receive calls from Mr.Sierra? The suspense is killing me and the spring semester is right around the corner.

According to the spring 2017 posts, they got the calls on Jan 5 which was a Thursday. So, I am guessing the calls will be made tomorrow Thursday or Friday on Jan 5.

Jan 6/7 are weekend.

If you do not receive a call by the end of the week you can give a call to the nursing department.

I called the Nursing Dept today to inquire on when we would hear if we'd been admitted. She said next week but based on last year's post here it sounds like we should be hearing back from them this week.

Hey guys I just got the call I got accepted! I have a GPA of 3.9 and got a 79 on the Kaplan

I got in, day program !!!!! I can't believe it :) He is making the calls today due to tomorrow's snow and Friday's windy weather possibility.

Thats awesome news!!! :) Day or evening?
