As a re-peat test taker myself finally passing, the secret is DONT be hard on yourself-its not you its the dumb test, and second is DONT give up !!--if you can do those (2) things..you WILL pass.

As far as 'plans", well--i dont prescribe to any "plan"--i reccomend Kaplan for questions and saunders for content. other than that,

I believe that everyone , basically knows within themselves the nursing areas in which they are weak in and strong in. so focus more on you 'weak" areas...Like PhARM--EVERYONES weak point. and less on you strong points.

I wish you the best of luck !!, let us know how it goes.

Thank you all again for all of your encouragement and support. :heartbeat I am really gald that I found this site...it has really helped me to hear that I'm not the only one and also to understand that failing this test does not mean that I won't be a good nurse. I have also been blessed to encourage others as well. This is just a cool place. :nurse: I will follow Suzannes's plan word for word and I will pass next time. Thanks again EVERYONE!!!:loveya:

Hey! You know what...I just took my NCLEX Friday, 7-18-08....I just got my results today & found out the devistating news....I failed....This was my 1st time taking it! It's truly frustrating b/c I studied my butt off since the middle of May (thats when I graduated) and I'm probably a select few who really studied their butts off. There are 4 people who really really struggled through nursing school who passed! And makes me really frustrated! I am extremely happy for them...but on the other hand...I just think....How come they passed but I couldn't! We all did Kaplan. I did all of their 1,200 questions, watched their videos and everything. Our school paid for kaplan and ATI. I tried ATI but hated it! It was too involved with material and they gave you a ton of homework....overall, i would start to study 5-7 hrs a day for a week....not realistic if you ask me! I was stressing myself out and realized I was trying to jam 4 years worth of nursing school back into my brain! It wasn't happening.....So I thought Kaplan would help! I thought it was helpful when I was doing it, but apparantely not since I failed! I am frustrated & I'm sorry, I am just venting...I found out I failed 2 hrs ago. BUT, What do I do next?

I feel like a failure...I feel like all my studying was useless...I have 7 years clinical experience with 5 years of that being a CNA on ortho, peds, med/surg, & oncology...and the last 2 years being in the ER. I currently work in the ER as GN and I do not know what is going to happen now that I failed. My temp license says it expires 8-13-08...do I need to apply for a new one? Or won't they let me?

I'm stuck on what to do. Maybe I studied too much...Or maybe I just don't know my material as well as I thought..?? I don't really know? Please help someone

PS...I just heard about this website and became a member today...I hope Im doing this right...Im new! :wink2:

Just to clear up some misconceptions, for the first tip of my program, there is no mention of 100 questions per day, that is not even possible for some if they have to read the chapter.

Just follow the instructions as they are posted, and do not make any additions or subtractions to it.

Best of luck to you on your exam.

Susan...From reading a bunch of threads on this website...it sounds like your plan is phenomenal...Where can I find your NCLEX study plan at? I just found out I failed for the 1st time.....I need help....I'm new to this whole thing....thank you! :specs:

I think you have come to the right place for support because there are many people in this site who can relate to you. My one piece of advice to you is don't give up there are people who take the exam many times before passing and proably are very bright individuals. It sounds to me like you were very prepared for the exam, put in the work of studying so my only thought is that maybe you over thought questions and let your anxiety get the best of you? Because you did so much studying maybe the most clear answers seem too simple because you knew your stuff so well that you were over thinking... Take a break, read the wonderful posts on this site and build back your confidence. How many questions did you get? And what kinds were they SATA, teaching, math etc?

Welcome to the site

There is much in the way of support here on this site and forum. If you want to do Suzanne's plan then you need to look for the sticky Here

Another thought I am having about your expreince is maybe you were taking the exam as if you were in the "real world" because of all your clinical expreince (in the OR, med/surg unit etc.), instead of the nclex world. I have heard from a lot of new grads that working before taking the NCLEX is difficult because the NCLEX world is not the reality and sometimes incorprating clinical expreince into NCLEX questions can get you into trouble. In terms of a temp. permit it is likely that either you will be demoted to a nursing assistant/ unit secratary until you pass your boards or may have to stop working all together depending on your hospital. By law once you take the nclex and fail, your permit is no longer valid.

Luvinlife068 I also took Nclex twice. I'm still waiting for my results but for some reason I don't think I passed.I used Suzzane's first tip but I did not PM her for the additional study tips. I purchased the Kaplan's test stragety book and I review most of the study tips. What did you use as study aids for your first two times you prepared for the Nclex?

Ilovenursing08 --> That very well could be. I did study a lot. I got a few SATA, but my test was mainly meds. They were meds I had never even heard of! From 5 years being a CNA on the floor with 2 years in the ER + 4 years of nursing school....I had never heard of these meds in my life! The questions wanted me to know s/sx of the meds...well...the meds had no helpful hints either like -olol or -sone at the end & I was unable to eliminate answers, like if some sounded a like...pick the odd ball out, etc. Then I had diseases I had never heard of either in my life. I had somewhere between 145-160 ?s.

Some of my other friends had all GI stuff on theirs & passed with 75 questions...pretty sure if I had that stuff, i would have passed!

Tomorrow I am going into work to figure out what I need to do about the situation. Hopefully I just get demoted to a nurse extern....definitely am done with being a CNA.

I recommend contacting suzanne, I recently did that and she is a great person and very willing to help.

Good luck!

This is a stupid question, but was does "PM" mean?? A lot of people put that on here and I have no clue what it means....Also, How do you e-mail people?? To get a hold of Suzanne, I have to have 15 posts to threads to be able to e-mail her....? Is that correct??? I just joined today, So i am trying to learn the ins & outs of this. Thank you! :typing
