New to Tampa

Published

Help! I am a graduate registered nurse-licensed June 2009-new to the Tampa area. I moved from Montana and have only 2 months experience in long term, geriatric nursing care. I have been looking for a job in the Tampa area for over a month now, and have only managed to turn up 1 job interview. Can anyone make some suggestions on what to do next? I don't know of any job placement services around here either. Thanks for the help.

Specializes in Home Care.

The job market for new grad LPNs and RNs is tight, to say the least, in this area.

There are lots of staffing agencies, but most won't take new grads with no experience.

You'll find the staffing agencies on Monster, Careerbuilder and by looking in the phone book.

I heard a rumor that Tampa General is hiring new grads. Have you applied there?

I recently attended a job fair where Tampa General reps said they were not looking for any new grads at this time. Thank you for your help. I am located close to the downtown area of Tampa. I have my Florida nursing license including the background check required for the license.

Specializes in progressive care, respiratory.

A girlfriend of mine, also looking for GN position has been on th hunt for a job for about 6 months now with no luck. She posted her resume on monster.com and was finally offered a temporary position to give vaccinations @ a local clininc for a couple weeks. Not that great, but better then nothing. So it can't hurt to try posting your resume @ websites such as those...

Specializes in ED.

monster.com works. Try James Haley VA or University Comm

Specializes in ICU/CCU/Oncology/CSU/Managed Care/ Case Management.

University Community is ALWAYS looking for nurses. Not a good hospital to be a patient, but a good place if you need a job and can't find anything else.

I am not sure about New grads. I know the one on Fletcher is less picky about who gets in. The Carrollwood site is smaller and a bit choosier as to they allow into the facility. Keep calling them, I know they need nurses. Try Fla Hospital Zephyrhills and also Tampa General. Tamap Gen loves new grads but the pay sucks and I wouldn't want to work there.

You should try Veterans Hospital in Tampa.

Specializes in LTC, Hospice, Tele, ICU.

try northside hospital in st petersburg. its only 20 minutes over the howard franklin bridge. they hired me after i had 2 years of nursing home experience and noone else would hire me cuz i didn't have hospital experience. i only stayed there a year but atleast it got me some experience. good luck.
