Our unit changes out the syringe and graduated cylinder used for tube feedings every day, along with the tube feeding bag. Is this common practice for ya'all?
We change the tube feed syringes every 24 hours on night shift, and our nebulizer masks and tubing get changed once per week. Our resident who gets bolus feedings during the day and continuous 90ml/hr Fibersource HN at night keeps his Fibersource plastic container hanging for 48 hours.
Is the actual fibersource 48 hours old? If so, that is a big no no. All IV fluids, TPN, and tube feedings should be changed at least q24. At least around here. And we can get pretty heavy fines if "caught" with older stuff still up.

the large bottles, from the manufacturer, often are marked with a 48 hour hang time....
you might well use the same glass, but it is washed between uses.....lol
Well, *I* know that I wash my glass between uses, lol, but there are a LOT of lazy nurses out there and I can guarantee you that the syringes, etc. aren't getting washed/cleaned like they're supposed to - and that's just gross.
