Greeting!
It's good to be a part of a website that is designated for aspiring and current nurses. I live in the Metro Detroit are of Michigan and I'm almost finished with my pre req's for nursing school at Oakland Community College. I should be able to start fall of 2007.
The problem is that I'm a single mother who would still need to work full time. Is there any suggestions how I could go to nursing school and still work? Are there any evening programs in Michigan designed to cater to those in my situation?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanx

Good luck. The Michigan forum is here: https://allnurses.com/forums/f154/
I worked through school and it was tough. I took my time and had all co-req classes completed and was able to just take Nursing all by itself. Good luck.

Welcome, I am an OCC student currently also! Will be finished with my nursing pre-req's after this fall semester. Unfortunately, the wait is horrible here at OCC, and I have heard reapllying 1,2,or 3 times until you are admitted is not unheard of. So after the fall semester I will be finishing up Oakland University's pre-nursing requirements. If I have to wait that long, I might as well wait, and get a BSN.
As for the evening programs you are asking about, Oakland University has a part time program which may be helpful to you.
To all those OCC or Oakland University students out there, can anyone give me any insight about the admission status for either or both schools. I am not completely familiar with OU's status for admits. Any help would be nice.
Thanks

I am also planning on attending OCC. I finished up with my pre'reqs in the Winter 2006 semester and applied for Fall 2006. Needless to say, I didn't get in because of all the people that finished ahead of me. I read that one person finished in Summer 2004 and just got in for the Fall 2006 class. So it can be quite a wait! I figure I should be able to get in by Fall 2008.

Thanks for the Oakland University info. I will check to see what programs they have. Also, when I spoke to an OCC counselor a few months back, I was told there wasn't a waiting period. I do have an appointment to speak to a counselor again next Monday and will keep you updated. I hope they aren't telling students one thing when another is taking place.
Yeah, there is no waitlist, but the first people to get in are those who finished their pre'reqs the earliest. So I would say there is a "de-facto" wait-list, just not real apparent.
