New RN graduate, just offered a job on an Oncology unit!

Hi everyone! I am a recent RN graduate and just accepted my first RN position on a Medical/Oncology unit! I am very excited because Oncology has always been an interest of mine and I am thrilled to begin this job! I feel that I have a pretty good knowledge base of cancer and I am also familiar from caring for patients palliative from the 1.5 years I worked in the nursing home as an LPN caring for hospice patients, most of which had cancer. I am wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom or advice they'd be willing to give me? It'd be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have worked a majority of my career with oncology patients. I feel it to be a privilege to care for someone during their journey of the biggest fight of their life:yeah::yeah::yeah: People often ask me, how can I deal with it everyday and I explain that I will work as hard as I can to help my patients to live another day, but if the time comes and they are ready to graduate to heaven, I will work just as hard, to assure comfort and dignity!!! It can be really difficult emotionally sometimes but it can be just as rewarding! i am going for my certification later this year after I have enough hours on the unit. I am going to get my certification in med surg first. Good Luck and make sure you ask a lot of questions in orientation and learn as much as you can:)
