CONGRATULATIONS :yeah:to all that got accepted into the nursing program at Lone Star College and also the ones put on as alternates (hang in there, I have read good news for alternates in previous threads). Its been a long hard road for some of us and some its prabably been easy. I wanted to start a new thread for North Harris fall "09" students (or who every wants to comment or give tips.) Reading from previous threads I understand nursing school is not an easy tasks. So, hopefully this thread can help us entering into this new life we are about to experience for the next 2 yrs.
I was hoping we can form a study group to jump start us off before school starts. I heard that students usually have their group going by the first day of class. I am a little shy when it comes to meeting new people, but once I am comfortable I fit in just fine. I know from the previous thread a few of us admitted our shyness in a new environment. So, hopefully this thread can help us jump start our group...
Have anyone start working on their CPR, shots, physical and etc. Do anyone have to take pharm this summer? As for me, I have to take pharm this summer. I wish I had already taken it earlier so I could have enjoyed my summer.
Ok, you guys are scaring me with the long list... WOW,, thats going to be expensive.. do we actually need every single book or they just recommend them to get us through the program.. I am sure there is no easy way out, but if you do find a discount Lizzienick311 please inform us or anyone else who finds a cheaper way out..
Hey Tyshe - I just graduated from North Harris and unfortunately, you do need all of the books on the list...at least the ones that are required. There are some on the list that are not required, but most of them are. I remember thinking the same as you...do we REALLY need them all!!! Anyway, I bought a lot of my books from biggerbooks.com, but definitely check around. I think alot of them are cheaper online than through the book store.

Hi everyone,,..I hope everyone is enjoying their summer and getting required information done before the deadline,,.. I went to orientation on Thursday and it was very informative, they answered all the questions we had and gave us very good feedback. I got a chance to experience the long list of books needed for the course…What a list…I notice about 3 or 4 books on the list that is optional, the rest are required..Other than the book list I am excited about nursing school.. Also, dont forget to apply for the different grants out there to help with nursing school...,,remember alot of us will not be working so some assistance is better than no assistance.. :) Thank
Did ya'll get the email about the varicella form not being accepted by one of the hospitals?? Now, I have to get varicella titers drawn or the vaccine!!! So frustrated that I have to spend more $$$... A lady at Kelsey-Seybold told me that since I had chicken pox as a child that I can't get the vaccine. Does anyone know if this is true?? I don't want to pay to get Titers drawn and then take a chance of them coming back negative. What should I do???? help! LOL
Just wondering if anyone has taken the HESI at LSC? Only Reading and English according to the website. Is it pretty basic? Just wondering. I plan to apply next month for Spring 2010 ADN program. God willing and the creek don't rise!! Ya know, this is hurricane season..
Hey Lizzienick311 - I graduated from North Harris this past May. I had the chicken pox as a child, but also had the vaccine. It's a weird thing in my family...we get the chicken pox as kids and then some of my family has gotten them again as adults...so I didn't want to take any chances. I got the vaccine just before I started nursing school at Sadler clinic. It was no problem.
Well to any alternates out there: I hope your next on the list and get my spot... I cannot get the required vaccines to start the program because I am pregnant and my ins does not cover titers, there's no way i could pay for those out of pocket for each vaccine. I will have to reapply next year... maybe I'll rethink all my options. I know everything happens for a reason, whether for me or for the alternate that gets my spot :) Good luck to you all!! I'll be checking in to see how you're all handling the program so post often :)
Sorry to hear about that Jeneecw,, those shots cause alot of problems and they are expensive to get... I wish you all the best with your pregnancy... :)
Have anyone got the drafted semester one nursing registration, 2009 in their email this morning? Have anyone decided their clinical site yet?? There are so many to choose from..
