New Pre-nursing Student!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey! I've been lurking for a while and just wanted to introduce myself since classes will be starting soon. This is my first time at college, so I'm kind of in shock at the moment, lol. Classes start on Monday; this term I'm taking Organic Chemistry and Nutrition for prerequisites and a few other general education/fun classes (drawing, raquetball, health). I'm really looking forward to starting classes...though it seems no one else around here is!

Specializes in ER.

Good luck to you and congrats on making the jump to nursing! You're not alone with looking forward to classes; I start my clinicals this fall and I am extremely excited. Welcome to allnurses, it really is a great place!

Nixie, welcome. Get into your science classes like A&P and Micro and then let us know how excited you are. LOL

Welcome to allnurses, i can tell you that this site will be a great support system for you, its been a godsend for me. I started my first semester of college this past January, and this fall i will start the nursing program.I know the shock you are going through, It kinda seems unreal, God has been with me since day one. i was placed on an alternate list for admission for fall, but by the grace of god i got accepted. I have 13 credits so far and by the end of the summer i will have at least 20, maybe 24 if i can get into micro this last 5 weeks. I have not decided yet if i am gonna stop after next summer and become an LPN or just keep going 2 more semesters and become an RN. I really just want to be an RN though. well thats a little about me and what I'm doing i just wanted to say welcome

i realize that by the time you read this your first day of classes will have come and gone. you are probably sitting at home in a daze still trying to figure some things out! here are some links into information on how to study and take tests for college students that you might be interested in looking at and reading. you are very young and college is usually a big jump and eye opener for the newly graduated high schooler. good luck with your classes.

http://www.accd.edu/sac/history/keller/accditg/ssindex.htm - strategies for success, an online primer and tutorial on how to study for students from the alamo community college. this is a pretty extensive resource with links on the right side of the page to click into the following subjects: learning styles, note taking, memory techniques, time management, overcoming procrastination, sq3r (a method for getting the most out of reading your textbooks), study tips, critical thinking, preparing for tests, and oral presentations. also, take a look at the faq's (frequently asked questions).

http://www.ucc.vt.edu/stdysk/checklis.html - this is a study skill checklist for you to go through and inventory your study habits from virginia polytechnic institute and state university. at the bottom of the form is the link to "study skills self-help information" which is all kinds of information to help you with areas you were weak on in the checklist. if you want to bypass the checklist and just go into the information section, go to this link http://www.ucc.vt.edu/stdysk/stdyhlp.html

Welcome, Nixie!

I'm a new pre-nursing student too and I actually started my first college classes at the end of May. I was very excited just as you are! Now I'm in my last week of summer session I classes. Next session I will be taking Psychology and Sociology. I think it will be fun. Those are interesting subjects to me.

Hey I'm happy I bumped into someone in my 'class' that I can relate to!

Welcome Nixie!

I am also a pre-nursing student and this will be my first time in college. I am also very excited and can't wait!

Good Luck!!
