New to Phoenix, Grand Canyon Uni or Chamberlain?

Published

Hi everyone, I am new to Phoenix and am interested in moving from EMT to RN (just an EMT-B so no Para bridge program) I see that all the MCC colleges have huge wait lists and am wondering what everyone thinks of these two schools? Which would be better? Do they both result in BSN's that are transferable to other colleges in case I want to specialize later? Accreditied? Are they "degree mills" that hospitals will look down upon? Cost is not an issue here, as I am in the Army and its all paid for.

Thanks!

Very highly regarded? I don't think so. Most people in the nursing community (read: those of us who are already nurses or hire nurses) don't find them to be 'very highly regarded' at all.

I mean, there's a reason when you can get into a program without a wait.

Their RN-BSN is run as a diploma mill, which clouds their traditional BSN program's integrity.

OP, why not ASU or NAU?

Ouch they're not highly regarded?! :/ From a few people (medical) i've talked to they said they're up there in nursing/teaching quality...

My dream school WOULD be ASU but I'm just not sure how competitive I'd be (... btw I have yet to start my pre-reqs... I start in a few weeks for summer school)

Like I said, their RN-BSN diploma mill has clouded thier tradition program. But working with GCU students has also left me unimpressed. We have yet to hire one...

cardiacRN, which program would you recommend from word of mouth Chamberlain or GCU based upon what you've heard from each?

Btw I was wondering, what hospital are you employed at?

Is it safe to assume you graduated from ASU? :nuke:

The hospital I work for hires from all programs. In fact, I've precepted a few terrible ASU new grads. Our best new grads come out of the community college system, if you look at how they perform in the first year. I think GCU is a reputable program.

Chamberlain seems to be making a big recruiting push in the valley right now -- they just signed a discount tuition agreement with my hospital. They must be working hard on accreditation. I don't know anyone who has gone to Chamberlain, though, so I can't speak to how well their new grads are prepared.

Originally Chamberlain was "the" nursing school to go to in it's hayday. The school and name and since been sold, so do some digging before you buy the since 1920 or whatever year they have on there. I've heard good and bad stories from those who have attended, but I've yet to meet anyone who's graduated from there. That's mostly because the school just opened here in AZ, but from other states as well, I haven't come across anyone who's a recent graduate.

I have an ADN~

how does changing a name effect since when they have been opened?...... if they say 1920 so wat if they were bought by another company (devry i think) and changed the name?...its still the same nursing college just under a different name now.....
