New to Nursing....

I live in Wichita and work at the clinic on McConnell! I was in Flight Medicine helping with records with a clerk position. While I was there, I helped take our stitches and watched many minor procedures. Now I am in the orderly room doing strickly paper work and having nothing to do with the medical field.

I am currently going to school at Cowley and I will hopefully be applying for nursing school at Butler in May! But the more and more I read on this website it seems like it is SO hard to become a nurse, the schooling, the hours, the stress! I am getting a little bit discouraged. I would love to work in a hospital setting doing something but because of school and having no type of certification I dont know what I can do!

Any adivce/help? Any nurses in Wichita that have some advice or help that they can give me??

I am not in Kansas, but wish to give you some encouragement. Yes, the road to becoming a nurse can be a long one with many hours committed in the process. But, the pay off is tremendous. Finally, you get to do what you have worked very hard to become...providing quality nursing care as a nurse. Once a nurse, you will look back at your past school days as a fond thing, sometimes actually missing it. What you are feeling and thinking at this stage of your game is normal and expected.....but, please don't become too discouraged by it. Tell yourself and believe....that if others have gone before you and have done it....you can too.

Most hospitals don't require any certs except for BLS for aides. I worked as one for 3 years prior to and during nursing school. If you take the initiative it can be a learning experience that will help your nursing career. It will also give you a little experience to see if nursing is really what you want to do.
