New nursing student going into MedSurg. Any advice?

Published

Hello everyone, I just finished my first semester in my nursing program which was fundamentals. To be honest I did struggle a little bit because everything was and still is new to me. You see, in my program everything is self taught. The professors do not teach at all and everything is pure textbook. I need to teach myself everything and read the textbook on my own. I had a 4.0 GPA but sadly I had to kiss it good bye. I am starting second semester in February, which will be MedSurg. Unfortunately, I have to teach everything myself again and I have heard that MedSurg is tough and confusing to understand. I have the whole month of January to prepare. Does anyone have any advice or any books that really helped them? I am open to ANY suggestions, I'm so desperate for help. I would also appreciate advice for test taking tips for MedSurg. Please reply to my message, I really appreciate it. Thank you all! Happy new year!

I see that y9ou are in your first year. Is the a BSN or ADN/ASN program. Explain to me what you mean that you teach yourself. Don't you have any lecture time?

Oh I'm very sorry, i am new to all this. I am in my associates program. And of course I have lecture but unfortunately, in my program everything is self taught. I have to teach all the subjects and topics on my own. Its very difficult and no one helps me. The program was made to wean students out slowly.

Hummm....I am not found of these kind of programs. It makes me feel they are in it only for the money.

Medical-Surgical Nursing Made Incredibly Easy! (Incredibly Easy! Series®)

when you study do you read the chapters before hand and take your own notes. That way the info want be new to you when the teacher brings it up during lecture. Most of the time the teacher will only mention it doing that scheduled lecture day where you will take more notes. It is your job to go over the info yourself again after the lecture. That way you would be able to go over that info 3 times at the end of lecture day. You should also compare the study guide to your previous notes in order to make sure you aren't missing anything and to see if you need to change up your note taking skills. Good luck

Kaplan book!! Saunders book!!

Med surg success book for practice questions and Saunders comprehension review book is really good tool to use when studying for med surg.

It is against the TOS to put any title in your name you haven't earned. I see you are currently enrolled in an ADN program, but you have not graduated to receive the title yet.

In nursing school not everything can be covered, there is just too much material & too little time.

Thank you so much! I actually have the last book you wrote, Medical-Surgical Nursing Made Incredibly Easy!. Is it a good book and did it really help you? Thanks again!

Which books? Please please give me specifics! I'd really appreciate it.
