New Nursing Student- Anxiety?

Published

I just found out yesterday i was accepted into nursing school! I start in 15 days! and all i can feel is stress and anxiety and nervousness versus happiness and excitement? Is this normal? Im thinking its just because everything is happening SOOO fast!

Congratulations!!! Best suggestion for your last 15 days of freedom are to clean your house, car and anything else that will get neglected when you start. Remember to pamper yourself- catch up on sleep. Visit with all your friends and family. Reorganize your study area so it is set up ahead of time, and do the "happy-dance"! Relax, don't start getting scared before you even attend class. You made it this far, just go with it and have confidence that you can handle anything that is thrown your way:nurse:

Yep, it's completely normal. I felt the same way. You're starting something new. It would be weird if you weren't a bit on edge. Best of luck and enjoy it while it last. It'll be over before you know it!

Get your books & supplies, make sure you have your immunizations up-to-date, & everything is turned in that's required for the program so you don't have to worry about it when classes start. START READING!!! The first day of classes you usually get a ton of reading dumped onto you, so start early!

Totally! Just relax and take it one day at a time.

That is totally normal!!! However once you start its soo much fun! I learned soo much and made soo many friends and had so many laughs. Ye get each other through the good times and the tough times. You do get nervous sometimes like I remember the first time I had to give a simple sub cut injection. I was soo scared, I took a deep breath and did it while a preceptor I had ( who was really really lovely) talked me through it and encouraged me. Then she told me I was ''a great girl and did a great job'' I was soo proud of myself! I was smiling for the whole day and told all my friends and some of them were in awe because they hadn't done it yet. It really made my day. So what I'm sayin is that even if your nervous, that great feeling afterwards overpowered those nerves and makes it worthwhile! Plus my patient said that they didnt feel a thing! Another confidence booster! now I have no problems giving a sub cut but i have yet to give an IM and I kno i'll be nervous but hey its just another step :) lol Just enjoy nursing school, Im still in it and can not wait for next semester!!!! I'm no longer nervous, just excited!!!!!!! :D :D

Yes, it is very normal to feel anxious, nervous, excited, happy, fearful and everything else. You'll be having these feelings all throughout the program, especially on test days and the start of a new clinical rotation. Don't worry though because it'll be over before you know it. I remember feeling like that at the start of my program and now I'm finished. Congratulations on your acceptance into the program. I wish you much sucess! :nurse:

I feel the same way! I found out 2 weeks ago that I got accepted for an RN program that starts in August. At first, I was ecstatic but now I'm excited and super anxious. I feel like there is so much preparation of things to get in order before I actually start, and I have a lot longer than you do! Just get everything ready as soon as possible and then do lots of fun things until you start.

Congrats!!
