new to nursing and need help

Hello everyone and thanks in advance.I have a bs degree in criminal justice and a minor in english. However, I obtained my degree in 96 is there any way I can use any of my old credicts or do I have to start from scratch?

Specializes in Rehab/LTC.

I got my first Bachelors degree in business management in 92. All of my gen ed credits transferred (math, english, speech, etc). But I had to take the general science classess in order to get into the nursing program - biology, microbi, chemistry, biochem, anatomy and phys, etc. After those were finished, I began the nursing classes and have my ADN and am starting my bachelors classes next week.

It would have been much faster if I had taken the accelerated bachelors degree programs for people who already have a degree in another area, but they are not very easy to get into and I didn't want to move.

Thank you so much!

most of your basic education classes are good for transfer forever. the last time i transferred mine they were 25 years old. the ones that won't transfer are the sciences that are anatomy and physiology, micro and chemistry. the logic, and they will tell you if you ask, is that there have been too many advancements in these fields so these classes need to be taken more recently. most schools require that they be taken within 5 years of starting the nursing classes and some will go as long as 10 years. therefore, they should be the last classes you take before the actual nursing classes. the best thing to do is look at the college catalog of the nursing school you will be going to or make an appointment to talk with a counselor who can tell you about the science pre-req requirements.

Thank you so much
