It hasn't even been up to four months while working on this medsurg/tele floor and I feel like I want to give up on nursing altogether. I feel like I suck as a nurse and the nursing field would be better off without me. I'm so ready to give up.

I felt the same way when I started nursing donkeys years ago. As long as you know your basics and ask experienced staff when unsure and learn from your mistakes you'll be fine.

I felt this way too! Don't give up. I promise it WILL get better. I think at least half of my nursing class considered leaving the profession during the first 6 months...but all of us felt better around 1 year. Please know that it will get better and remember there is so much more to nursing than med/surg. It's ok if you are not a med/surg nurse, but in 6 months you will be thankful you started in this area. Keep your head up, take care of yourself, make sure you are doing fun things on your days off to get your mind off of work.

Four months? I did not get even slightly comfortable with nursing for the first year. Just keep at it and don't give up

I'm a new nurse, and I feel like an idiot at LEAST once a day. Don't give up yet! We are new--no one expects us to know everything yet.

Im a new nurse too and often feel the same way, but I talk to my friends that are nurses and they all say to hang in there...its normal to feel this way for the first year or so. Hearing this always helps me and I often think about it after a challenging shift. So you're not alone...Hope that helps!

I hope you make the best of it, ask for help when you need it and smile a lot. I've been a nurse for 2 yrs and I am getting ready to go back to school for a change in career. Part of it is because for me, things didn't get better, and the other part is because I can't find a job.

You can do it! I wanted to quit every day for the first few months. I was miserable, every day I felt incompetent. I stuck it out and I started having good moments, which led to good days, then good weeks, then before I knew it, I didn't hate my life anymore.
Stick it out, it gets better.
