New Navy NCP Selectee Looking for others!

Published

Just got word that I have been selected for the Navy Nurse Candidate Program! Super excited! I would love to get in contact with others. I graduate in May of 2012. Anyone else out there?

Updating this thread for NCP'ers - just spoke with my recruiter, we DO in fact get paid our stipend over summer breaks. Just fyi.

Specializes in Emergency Nursing (CEN).

Thanks deftonez188! Good to know...I just would like to sign my paperwork and finally start getting paid!

Just wanted to know if anyone has heard anything lately. I talked to my recuiter and it's not looking good. There were 21 spots left and 30 people recommended from the board. I'm not sure how it works, but from what I understand, unless someone out of those 21 selected ahead of me decides to pull out, I will have apply through direct commission next year. My recruiter said the selectees would be phased in over the next several months.

I swear in next Friday! Got a call from my recruiter today saying my paperwork was on his desk and I was eligible May 1st. I live about 3 hours from my recruiter, so he is driving up next Friday and we're doing the swearing in at the Army Post here. Spunky 1, people will start hearing things now hopefully, so keeping my fingers crossed that someone backs out to let you in! Did anyone else hear?

Congrats littleluvbugnavy!

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!:yeah:

Does the 3.0 gpa have to be just from nursing classes? or do they include the gpa from pre-reqs from other institutes?

The 3.0 is your overall from ALL courses you have ever taken, even ones that do not apply to your Nursing degree.

Specializes in Cardiology, ICU.

Yes littleluvbugnavy is right, I applied during my first semester of school before my nursing GPA could even be calculated, but you do have to keep a 3.0 overall the whole program, as you will be sending in your grades after every semester.

Question for those that submitted packets - my recruiter hasn't given me much in the way of guidelines for my references. Were any of you told of anything in particular that they should address? Thanks!

Specializes in Cardiology, ICU.

I had a retired LT commander who happened to be my pastor, a woman I volunteered for in a library and my most previous employer. J

Thanks DelaneyBoyce.

I was actually curious if they had given you guidelines on what your references should address. Like with nursing schools, there was always a form for them to fill out with questions. My recruiter just said that they had to sign and date it the letter and I was hoping to give the people writing some general guidelines.
