CNM HESI A2

Hmmm, at the seminar they didn't mention that chances to get in were better if you registered early. This is the first I am hearing of that. They did say that everyone would have a shot but its basically like trying to get into UNM's regular BSN program. You must have the highest GPA and HESI score. The reps at the seminar acted like the dual program isn't going to be very competitive BUT of course it will be.

The UNM reps definitely stated that the students that are accepted into the dual program will be taking their classes at the Rio Rancho campus.

It's ridiculous that the program will be starting in just 2 months and the program isn't finalized. When I met with an UNM adviser (the day of the seminar) she told me I was a great candidates to be accepted into the dual program. After sitting in the seminar I realize that all the pre-reqs must be done at the time of registration. Unfortunately I am taking Stats this summer so I cannot start the BSN program this fall. The adviser did apologize to me after the seminar and stated that changes were still being made.

Don't get your hopes up girl, you still have a really good chance! When did you do the pre-screening? I have unfortunately already been denied for both programs because of my 73% score on the HESI Chemistry

I have started doing more research on all of the NMNEC program around the state. I will be applying for the other UNM partner schools. Hopefully I will get in to one of these programs!

I initially turned in the pre-registration form the day it became available. I was denied the first time because I needed the course substitution for English 101/102 which I thought was ridiculous, why they couldn't just look at my 219/220 automatically like UNM does (or did) is beyond me.

I wasn't going to but decided to go ahead and do the course substitution/resubmit last week due to being an alternate at GCU, and got through the second time around.

I think the "not as competitive vibe" was what I was getting from advisors and is what really threw me off about this whole thing.

Sorry to hear that about the chemistry section on the HESI. The first time I took it I kept thinking " this is it"?... It was way too easy. But the other time i took it, it was like "what in the world is this", so I definitely understand.

We will both get in somewhere...eventually! Are you still going to apply to GCU as well?

Wow that is ridiculous! Did you ever find out what number you are on the GCU alternate list? I was still planning on applying to GCU until I realized Patho 2 is a prereq! I'm pretty disappointed about that because I love everything about GCU.

I understand you about this competitive program. The seminar was FULL! There were people standing by the walls and sitting on the floor. When the UNM reps said "24 people will be accepted" everyone's mouth dropped! These advisers must be off their rockers to think that a dual BSN program is "not as competitive". Most of the people trying to get into the program, have tried to get into CNM and UNM multiple times!

The seminar was great and seemed like a great wave of opportunity... until they said 24 students will be accepted. Those who are not accepted may or may not get into one of the ADN 40 spots!

I am totally disappointed like so many others but I am keeping the hope that I will get in somewhere. I may have to sacrifice taking out loans and living out of the city for 4 semesters BUT at this point, I really don't care lol! I'm just going to do what I have to in order to finally get an RN behind my name!!

The chem was hard for me. I studied for 3 weeks for about an hour or two everyday. If it had not been for that dreaded chem section, I would have recieved a 90% overall! Gahhh, oh well I'll retake in August.

One more question...About the pre-reqs needing to be finished at the time we submitted the form, do you know if that includes Micro, A&P I, Patho I, etc.? Basically all those third semester pre-reqs of UNM's plan of study that are not taken into consideration (or I don't think they are) at the time of application (at UNM), but do have to be finished and passed once the first semester in the nursing program starts. Also, did the UNM adviser say when people would start hearing from them?

Sorry about all of the questions...and I realize I lied, I asked two more instead of one :shy: (oops). I wish I had been able to go to the info seminar back in May but I was busy and could not figure out a way to make it. I have so many questions and the advisers I speak to just make everything twice as confusing and headache-inducing.

Hello all my fellow future nurses!
I will be taking CNM's HESI A2 Exam next weekend and I wanted to ask if anyone on here has already taken it.
I took the old HESI (without Biology, Chem, & A&P) last summer and passes with a 90% but, unfortunatly I have to take this new HESI (thanks to all the program changes).
I'm not extremely nervous about the test, I'm just concerned about the new sections.
So here are my questions:
1) What books or sites did you use to study?
We tutor a lot of students and recommend our study guides which include practice worksheets, and HESI-like practice test questions, alongside diagrams
2) If you took the basic HESI, did you find the HES A2 difficult?
3) How in depth should i be studying A&P?
4) Is there anything you would have done differently

We tutor a lot of students and recommend our Ready For The HESI study guides which include practice worksheets, and HESI-like practice test questions, alongside diagrams and fill in the blank pictures. These are very helpful for anatomy and physiology, biology, and chemistry.

The study guides are perfect for a refresher, even if you took a&p years ago or if you have been out of school for a while.

2) If you took the basic HESI, did you find the HES A2 difficult?

A lot of our students, don't find it too challenging as long as the right material was studied. For all the sciences, it's important to remember that each science questions only has 25 questions. So a whole semester or two semesters of a course comes down to 25 short questions.

This is actually a good thing! It means HESI will only test you over general topics and information and not super specific details.

3) How in depth should i be studying A&P?

[Focus on broad and general concepts

Main body hormones, cellular transport, location of anatomy, etc.) These kinds of questions are **always** asked on the HESI exam.]

What we recommend to students is please, please do not neglect the other sections! Reading Comprehension and Grammar are just as important as anatomy and physiology. Sometimes students don't study as much on these sections because they think it's a no-brainer. Whether or not you're a native English speaker, this 50 question section needs to be held with the same importance for studying.

One of the most missed questions for the HESI grammar are confusing word pairs like affect vs effect and lie vs lay and farther vs further etc.
