Wow I didn't even know Everest had an LPN program.

I normally wouldn't post something negative, but I feel like this may help someone out in the future, so here goes. I would never, ever try to obtain any level of medical licensing from a "tv college" such as Everest. These types of colleges are notorious for greedy, back-door tactics and consistently swindle people out of their hard-earned money in exchange for what can barely be described as an "education." I have heard so many horror stories of people being taken in by the admissions representatives only to be pressured relentlessly to sign up for courses, most of which are not even accredited. If I were you, I would find a local community college, take your pre-requisites and then apply for their program. In the meantime, you could get certified as a CNA if you'd like. Be good to yourself, invest in a quality education so that you can provide quality care to your patients and feel awesome about being a nurse! Best of luck.

Wow! I think that was pretty negative. I understand your opinion on how you feel about a so called "tv college", but let's be clear depending on the state you live in, they advertise not only technical schools but also community colleges and universities on television. I Have heard horror stories about many different schools rather it be community college or a university. I don't believe you should have the right to discourage someone for looking into there options on schooling. It's one thing to tell someone you heard bad reviews about it and to be cautious and really research the school before applying but it a whole other thing to try and push your negative opinion on to others. But thanks for replying!

By the the way I have done my due diligence in researching the Everest here in my state not only looking at the board of education to make sure their accredited (they are) but also talking to nurses I work with that have attended the program. I haven't made a decision on wether I'm attending or not but at least I have all the facts!!

I don't believe you should have the right to discourage someone for looking into there options on schooling.

First, it's "their".

Second, you should consider changing your screen name. I believe it's against TOS to use the title if you don't have the license. If not, it is definitely frowned upon.

Third, you asked for opinions. If the school has BON approval (which is different from accreditation) and you are ok with the cost of attending, then go for it.

I would suggest comparing the prices of this school with other local schools for the same degree. Maybe also ask around at the hospitals or facilities you would be applying to work in. Find out if they hire grads from this school.

Consider how a degree from this school may impact future education as well.

Ultimately the choice is yours.

By the way it is a Board of Nursing approved school in Michigan, so the next time you reply to someone question you can have your facts straight!

BON approval is not the same as accreditation. If you plan on furthering your education at some point, this would be a good topic to look into, before you invest time and money.

Very few LPN programs are accredited in the US. They must be board of nursing approved.

What is their NCLEX pass rate?

What kdhinesley said wasn't rude but true. Everest is just a college that is out for money. There is no reason to go to a for profit college like Everest. They will suck all the money they can out of you. There is no reason at all to go there. You can save tons & tons of money by going to a community college. Not only that but the teachers at for profit colleges usually aren't that great, because they will hire anyone for the job. So beware for any college that will take you as long as you have a pulse & a check book

It's not an opinion/suggestion, you cannot have nurse/LVN/RN in your screen name unless you have passed the NCLEX. It is illegal & against the TOS.

Okay, so here's the deal- I prefaced what I had to say by telling everyone that I usually DO NOT write such negative things, and I mean it. However, the only negative things I mentioned were in reference to the "for-profit"colleges like Everest and DeVry, etc. My apologies for referring to it as a "tv college," "for-profit" was the term I was searching for. Anyway, my intent was not to discourage someone from researching their education options! So again, I apologize. My only intent was to help redirect your search to a more reputable college that will only benefit you in the long run. Yes, horror stories come from every university- even Harvard or Yale. The point I was trying to make is that these colleges are only here for your money, not to provide a quality education for you. A co-worker of mine got her Bachelor's and her Master's degrees from DeVry and they are absolutely useless (and hers are in business and business management). She has yet to find a facility that will even give her validation for her schooling because it is a degree from a "for-profit college." So in order to save others from that pain, I would rather tell the cold hard truth. The bottom line is that nurses (from a CNA to an NP) are awesome! I think if you truly want to be a nurse, then you will do what is absolutely best for you and your life. I hope you make the decision that is right for you. Best of luck. :)
