NEW LPN....needs help with Job questions

Published

I passed my NCLEX on 2-11-09....since that time I have been sending at least 1-2 resumes online a day. I have only received 1 phone call. I am so baffled as to why I have not received more. My resume is good, had it checked by a professional....I graduated with a 3.8 GPA, and I am IV & Med Certified. I have only personally applied to 3 places. I am still being considered for the one job which is a MAJOR hospital in my area....and I have a pending offer with the other place....but I am not quite sure I want that job. BTW I am in Northeast Ohio. My questions are ....

1. How long did it take you to find a job?

2. What resouces did you use to find opportunities?

3. Did you apply only online or in person?

Please feel free to ad any information you feel will be helpful. Thank yoU!

I got my first job 4 weeks after passing NCLEX. I applied in person and followed up with a phone call 1 week later. I'm not sure online resume posting is the way to go right now from everything I've been reading lately. If I were looking for a job right now, I believe I would go straight to the source and make sure you follow up with them. Good luck!

I stopped applying online when I realized that all of my online applications were ignored. I have been hired on the spot several times when I apply in person. I go to the places of employment prepared with resume and employment documents in hand, dressed to interview. Sometimes I'm interviewed, other times I'm given an appointment to come back. I fill out the application and things go from there. This way of job hunting has always worked for me.

I would definitely recommend going in person. I sent my resume and applications to various places via the internet and I would never hear anything back, EVER. One LTC facility that I worked at in the past, hired me on the spot when I went in to fill out the app. Go check out some facilities in person and you will find something, for sure!!

Good Luck!!

So do you look for openings on-line and then go apply in person, or just make a list of all the places you want to go, and start going there? I like the idea of collecting a bunch of applications, and then go back the next day to drop them all off....I need to change my way of applying....applying online has gotten me NO where quick. Tomorrow I will pound the pavement.....
